Music Review: The Truth about Mrs. Miller....
Rating: 5 Stars

In re-reading the 58 customer reviews here, I only saw TWO truly negative ones from people that didn't GET her. The other 56 RAVED about Mrs. Miller, and their love of her singing.

I've actually been pretty involved in researching her life, and I have spoken to two of her relatives, over the years. A few things to clear up:

1) At first she wasn't "in" on the joke. Along the way, a kind friend explained to her that people were actually laughing at her. But it never dampened Mrs. Miller's spirits. She truly enjoyed being the spotlight, and was completely sincere.

2) To clear up the confusion about the "Mrs. Miller" who appeared in the audience on the Merv Griffin and Joey Bishop shows... THAT Mrs. Miller is NOT the same Mrs. Miller who sang on these recordings. The "other" Mrs. Miller was a scrawny little old Jewish lady with glasses. I know, because I was in the audience of a Merv Griffin show taping, and I saw her there, up close. That is not Elva.

3) As a former professional musician, (Heck, I guess I'm STILL a professional musician - one of my songs was just used on "South Park"), I disagree that Mrs. Miller sang "off-pitch." Mrs. Miller DID sing with a VERY wild, out-of-control vibrato, and had bad timing, but singing off-pitch was not a Mrs. Miller trait (generally speaking.) While we're on the subject, Tiny Tim did also NOT sing off-pitch, as one reviewer here suggested. Go back and listen to both artists, and I think you'll agree with me.

Tiny Tim and Mrs. Miller were very much alike, in that they were completely sincere, and willing to accept the fact that people might be laughing at them. That didn't stop them. In Tiny's case, he might have actually played up the ridicule thing by offering to record things like "Do You Think I'm Sexy", etc.

Finally, good news! There are more Mrs. Miller gems in the vaults that are still unreleased! A couple of producers are in the process of trying to get them out to the public. Let's hope they do. And there's at least one documentary filmmaker who has been trying to tell her life story. Wouldn't THAT be awesome?

In closing, I'd have to say that I believe that Mrs. Miller has made a much more valid contribution to pop music than artists like MC5, Velvet Underground, Silver Apples, Boyz 2 Men, Menudo, Debbie Gibson, etc. Enjoyment of any kind of music is purely subjective, but I'd take Elva Miller over any of the above artists any day. In fact, you couldn't PAY me to listen to any of the artists I've mentioned. Their music irritates. However, Mrs. Miller's music doesn't irritate... it just plain makes me, and other people HAPPY and JOYOUS. It's obvious by reading the other reviews here, that I'm not alone in that opinion.

Here's to the upcoming new generations of Mrs. Miller fans, who will keep springing up out of the future gene pools, who GET it.

God bless you, Mrs. Miller. I'm certain that you're singing your heart out in that great celestial choir in the sky, and having a ball doing it!
