Music Review: Excellent!

This production of Mozart's Don Giovanni is wonderful to say the least. Colin Davis is a critically acclaimed Mozartian and knows how to conduct Mozart to the last note. The singers are also as excellent as the conductor. Ingvar Wixell is a wonderful choice for Don Giovanni. His voice (even in the incredibly fast champagne aria) doesn't sound rushed or disorganized. Luigi Roni's Commendatore is good for what the part is worth. Martina Arroyo is a good Anna but her voice sounds labored in the incredibly slow-taken "Or sai chi l'onore." Otherwise she is very good. Stuart Burrow's Ottavio is excellent. Kiri te Kanawa's Elvira is amoung the best. Wladimiro Ganzarolli's Leoporello is wonderful and funny when he needs to be. Richard van Allen's Masetto is one of the best I have ever heard. Mirella Freni's Zerlina is beyond excellent but at sometimes she has a hard time catching her breath to sing the next passage (but that can be forgiven.) My Verdict: Buy this recording!!
