Music Reviews of Moulin Rouge, Vol. 2 [Music from the Motion Picture]Music Review: Finally! Rating: 4 Stars
I was first thrilled when I got the soundtrack to Moulin Rouge. It was a great mix of pop and big band/show tune type songs.. but then I saw the movie.Aftwards, I rushed back to the car to play some of the highlights from the movie, only to find out that the soundtrack left most of them off! Volume two is a welcome addition to the first. As you can see from the song list, there are a number of key points in the movie that are finally available on CD - the Pitch and Like a Virgin are probably the best. I was quite disappointed with a couple of things, though. One, the sound isn't quite up to par with a normal CD - it sounds like some of the clips may have been taken directly from the film's music track, with little or no "finishing" done in the studio. Second, and most important, they left off the final scene with Nicole and Ewan - the part where he comes back to the theater one last time, and they reprise "Come What May." All in all, though, if you loved the movie (and you either do or you hate it) then this is a must-have addition to your Moulin Rouge collection.
Music Review: Excellent Addition to the music world Rating: 4 Stars
I've read some of the other user's reviews of this CD and must say I disagree entirely with the few I read! While the writers of these reveiws may have been music fans they certainly know nothing about music! This was an excellent CD. One user wrote that you should only buy the first soundtrack and that they should have just made the first soundtrack bigger to include all the songs and i totally disagree. While the cd did repeat many of the songs from the first soundtrack it was the SECOND cd that should have been made bigger to include all the songs. The first CD includes far too many remixes and versions of the songs that just don't let you relive the music. When you pop this second CD into your CD player what you get back is Moulin Rouge in its purest form. You get the songs straight out of the movie, and when you get a soundtrack from a MOVIE what other way would you want it then straight from the movie? This CD was by far better then the first and I think you are definitly missing out if you only buy and listen to the first one.
Music Review: A Soundtrack for the Musical Purist Rating: 4 Stars
If you enjoyed the movie "Moulin Rouge" and bought the original soundtrack released, you probably wondered the same things I did. Why were there none of the instrumentals from the film? Why were some songs missing? Why was the song "Come What May" remixed from the original film version? The Volume 2 soundtrack answers these questions by giving you the original film versions of songs as well as the songs that did not appear on the first soundtrack, like "The Pitch (Spectacular-Spectacular)," "Like A Virgin," and "The Show Must Go On" to name a few. "Come What May" is in its original version, just how it was heard in the movie. I own both soundtracks. Although I enjoyed the first one, it was obviously manufactured for the hip-hop market, which I am not a part of. I definitely was glad to see Volume 2 come out. To me, the best part of "Moulin Rouge" was the music. If you are of the same mind, then this soundtrack is an essential addition to your collection.
Music Review: Could it get any better? Rating: 5 Stars
So i thought that the first instalment in these soundtracks was great (and it was) but the purchase of this sequel is a must if you want the full effect. With the original film versions of these songs, sung by the stars of the movie, you get the real feel that was the magnifisence of Moulin Rouge! Ewan McGregor is still by far the star, with his talent spilling over the dramatic lovesong 'Come What May' and 'Your Song', but Nicole's brilliant performance as Satine definatly takes front and center in 'One Day I'll Fly Away' and the film version of 'Sparkling Diamonds'...I have noticed that many complain about how the first soundtrack did not include the film version of this song...well you need this CD then...you will not be dissapointed. Other highlights include 'Like a Virgin' which is downright histarical, and the dark cover of 'the show must go on' which highlights the tragidy behind this tightly woven tale. THis is one must have soundtrack for your ever growing collection. A perfect companion to soundtrack number 1!
Music Review: Now This Is More Like It! Rating: 4 Stars
Now this is more like it! If you had read my first review on the first Moulin Rouge soundtack CD you'd have found out I was extremely disappointed in that one. This CD is muych better. Why? It actally contrains the orginal tracks and cues that were ACTUALLY used in the movie. Much better and much more enjoyable after seeing the movie and wanting to relive the music. A great fun piece. Including the end credits which is a great renidtion of Boloro! Even the score cues are great. Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman do a fabulous job as well as all the entire cast singing. They are really great multi-talented performers. And this CD shows it! The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because for the rest of the movie you have to buy the first CD to get the other 4 songs. I wish studios would consider the ART before the almighty $$$$. Release a double CD, but stop advertising one thing and releasing another! Eitherway, this is the better of the two CD's to have. Unless you have some extra, extra cash and can buy both!
