Music Review: Somewhat of an afterthought

Released post The Final Rip Off this album collects a wad of musical musings by the comedy troupe Monty Python. And while many of their earlier TV material didn't necessarily make use of lots of songs they certainly used the heritage of British music hall humour in their films.
As such this is a valid enough release of 25 tracks that span social satire, outright offensive yet inspired silliness and tunes that will transport you back to the film or TV episode in question. It's pretty much impossible to discuss the musical styles on offer here, they are all sprightly in one way or another even when the vocals are dour as in Finland and while some of the tunes are rather twee, like I Like Chinese, they pretty much all work their charm on the listener.
If you are a fan of Monty Pythons output over the 70's and 80's then you will probably want to snap this up cheap to round out your collection of audio assaults. If you are a total newcomer to the group I would not start here as it is solely centred on their songs and you'd get a better breadth of understanding of what these guys were about by picking up the aforementioned The Final Rip Off.
