Music Review: The BEST Monkees album of all time!

In the mid-60s, The Monkees went from being on a weekly television sitcom to stepping into the recording studio to make music for real. They succeeded. When they finally got to go up onstage as a real live band, they did it best. This 4-CD set from Rhino Handmade was originally issued in the Spring of 2001. It contains 4 complete concerts from their Summer 1967 tour in America. Disc one has the concert from Mobile, Alabama; it was recorded as a one-wire mono recording by one of the roadies; the 3 remaining shows were recorded at the final 3 stops on the tour- namely in Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; and Spokane, Washington. They were recorded in stereo for use as a possible live album at that time. The majority of these 3 last shows eventually became the basis of the 1987 compilation release, "Live-1967!" Finally, you get all 4 shows in their entirety. That's right; every last warm-up, impromptu banter, audio difficulty and wrong note are preserved for all time. Also included is a 38-page photo booklet featuring candid shots taken during this tour. It is, without a doubt, the very best Monkees album ever released. This album proved, once and for all, that The Monkees could, indeed, play as a real band and succeed!
