Music Review: Absolutely Great Fun!!!!!!!!!

Mohammed el-Bakkar and his Oriental Ensemble !!! - Man, does this brings back memories. I had this recording in the late 1960's at Tulane University and I am thrilled that a version is still around (and deservedly so). Everyone in my fraternity in New Orleans loved this. We would kick back with beers, or anything else alcoholic, and crank up el-Bakkar full volume. I can't even guess how many card games, crawfish boils, or Friday afternoons this was a part of. We had no idea what the songs were about (we even had contests to make up our own English lyrics), but that didn't matter -- the music was fast, rhythmic, exotic, and just had a fun happy feeling to it. Something made me think back to those days and I wondered if the recording was still available. I was delightfully surprised that after almost 40 years it still is. I bought it instantly and two more el-Bakkar recordings as well. You don't have to know anything about the Mid-East or its music to enjoy this. If Mohammed el-Bakkar, or any of his Oriental Ensemble, are still around -- I say to him, or them, thanks for the great sounds!!!!!!
