Music Review: Mighty Aphrodite: Music From The Motion Picture soundtrack CD review

The music from the film "Mighty Aphrodite" is very nicely presented on this album with excellent quality sound and great artwork. The tracks are a mixture of instrumental tunes and ballads with lyrics; and the track set all holds its own very well.
The track set opens up with an instrumental "Neo Minore;" this beautiful, elegant piece of music sets the tone for the beginning of the picture and still stands well on its own as a fine piece of music that you can enjoy anytime. The guitar works in well with the rest of the musical arrangement and I like that. There's also the instrumental "I Found a New Baby" with its big band style and that brass amazes me every time I hear this one! "I Found A New Baby" by Wilbur De Paris is dynamic and full of energy; and I won't forget it anytime soon.
"Whispering" has always been one of my favorite songs from an era gone by; and this rendition by Benny Goodman & His Orchestra spotlights the sublime piano arrangement--that jazzy version of this tune sounds terrific! "Manhattan" is also sheer bliss; now THIS is great music! I also really like the instrumental rendition we get of "When Your Lover Has Gone;" I'm impressed and even though there's some surface noise it's really quite charming.
"Take Five" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet simply couldn't have been performed any better; and listen for yet another gem in Erroll Garner's sublime piano playing on "Penthouse Serenade (When we're Alone)." Garner also shines as he performs "I Hadn't Anyone Till You;" I love it!
"The `In' Crowd" is a crowd pleaser that really sways and swings brightly to liven up almost any atmosphere; and "You Do Something to Me" is just perfectly done. The album ends with a stunning chorus of "When You're Smiling;" and it's a fine ending number for the film, too.
In short, the music from Woody Allen's film "Mighty Aphrodite" consists of nothing but splendid music that not only enhances the film but stands on its own as a fine series of musical numbers. I recommend this CD for anyone who liked the film "Mighty Aphrodite"; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals and instrumentals will cherish this album for years to come!
