Music Review: Sublime vocal blend~Bravo Barbara & Michael!~

Since the 70's, Barbara Cook once a huge Broadway Star turned superb Cabaret Act, has been performing to sold-out venues both large and small so no surprise Ms. Cook gives a solid performance in a intimate club setting in this wonderful recording made up mainly of duets with Michael Feinstein who continues to grow as a fine singer and performer. Clearly years of duet concerts with a wide array of great singers such as Lorna Luft, Linda Eder, Nancy Wilson and others sharpened his skill and solo turns like the old classic "Without A Song" and 60's Dory & Andre Previn showstopper "You're Gonna Hear From Me" show a singer in full command, reminding one that Michael Feinstein is the best around today of male performers who can do it all mastering "The Great American Songbook".
Michael Feinstein knows what a spectacular legend Barbara Cook is and certainly listened endlessly over the years as many of us have to her incredible recordings, so he was well primed for the occasion and the smoothness of it all indicates flow came natural for both stellar performers as they are clearly in peak form. Duets are engaging and Barbara Cook solo turns feature a torchy & soulful "I've Got You Under My Skin" which redefines the great Cole Porter classic while a soul deep "Here's To Life" show this tremendous singer goes to the heart & soul of a song in her own unique special way with depth of emotion and rare exquisite vocal beauty.
Wondrous live recording captures the mood of all these classic songs and one is transformed to the audience who clearly had a wonderful time and so will everyone who obtains this musical treasure.
