Music Review: The best collection of Hymns I've ever heard

HYMNS is not only an outstanding Michael Card CD (the best since STARKINDLER and possibly even POIEMA), it is a rare expression of faith and theology put to music. It's a longing for a bygone era of Christian music. In an age of "Praise & Worship" where the instruments are louder than the singing voices, and even the classic hymns have to be modernized and made "more up to date", MICHAEL CARD HYMNS is truly a breath of fresh air.
Most of the hymns on this CD are performed with acoustic instruments and often with Celtic arrangements with the very occasional hint of Bluegrass (or that might have just been me). But none of the songs are rock and roll-ish or manipulated for a new generation. There are no new choruses to classic hymns written over 100 years ago. There are no lines repeated over and over. This CD is a diamond among coals, a rare and precious gem.
