Music Reviews of Donnie Darko (Score)Music Review: Bet you didn't know Pantera's music is in the movie... Rating: 5 Stars
Yes... During the party scene, there's a typical 80s sounding metal song. Proud To Be Loud by Pantera. It actually did come out in 1988 on their Power Metal album. Good luck finding it though, way out of print. I'm not even sure how they got permission to use the song if they did, cause Pantera doesn't exactly mention their pre-1990 days anymore.
Sucks this soundtrack never came out, just the score. The movie is amazing
Music Review: Halloween Frightmare? Rating: 5 Stars
This score was excellent. I certainly recommend it, and not just for the cover of Mad World. However, does anyone know who did the song that plays during the "Halloween Frightmare" scene and the first song of the opening credits. I found it to be one of my favorites of the film, but it is not in the score, nor have I been able to figure out which it is from the soundtrack credits. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Music Review: those looking for the movie's score, you're in luck! Rating: 5 Stars
Pop Music from Donnie Darko (in order of appearance):01. "The Killing Moon" - Echo & The Bunnymen 02. "Head over Heels" - Tears For Fears 03. "Notorious" - Duran Duran 04. "Proud To Be Loud" - The Dead Green Mummies 05. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - Joy Division 06. "Under the Milky Way" - The Church 07. "Mad World" - Gary Jules
Music Review: Great composition, however.... Rating: 4 Stars
No question Michael Andrews is a great composer, but the fact that the soundtrack lacks the incredible songs by Joy Division, Love and Rockets, and Echo and the Bunnymen....among others, is truly heartbreaking. The music sets the tone for this unique film, but without the full soundtrack to reflect on, there is something missing. I purchased it anyway, but do not enjoy the music quite as much without the visuals from the movie.
Music Review: This is not a soundtrack Rating: 5 Stars
Buy this record for the sheer brilliance of Michael Andrews - not the bitchin' pop songs you remember from DONNIE DARKO. There is only one song on this album and it's #1 in the UK. It's Michael Andrews' cover of MAD WORLD with Gary Jules. It is a damned amazing song. The entire record is damned amazing, but this is not a pop record. It is a record composed entirely of beautifully sparse piano music. I love it. You will too.
