Music reviews of ...And Justice For AllMusic Review: Mighty Metallica !!!!! Rating: 5 Stars
Metallica is one of the most innovative metal bands of all time period. I can't really explain in words how great early Metallica is. The word Metallica alone turns the heads of all metalheads and rock fans alike. Lately, Metallica has fallen apart and has turned into some kind of crappy nu metal band(see St. Anger). It is sad when you see a band that used to be so great, sell out like that (I place all blame MTV and Electra Records; for ruining Metallica), but their early days were golden and unbelievable.
I remember the first time I listened to Metallica; it was an unbelievable Revelation; from their on I gave up KoRn( and nu metal in general) and started listening to real rock. ....And Justice For All has to be Metallica's most complex album, like a fellow reviewer said. Metallica was going through some rough times, with the loss of their bass player Cliff Burton. This time around Jason Newstead steps up to the plate with big shoes to fill. In ....And Justice For All their are able to pull off a great album, despite the hardship; with Kirk Harmmet and Lars Ulrich displaying some of their best shredding in their entire careers, with some sick guitar solos and some awesome machine gun drumming.
Yet their were some production flaws that, kind of brought down the album, for example Jason Newstead's bass playing was damaged by the choppy sound and terrible mixing, which really put him out of the spotlight. Yet, Newstead played an important part in songwriting for this album as well as The Black Album. As a bass player, though he can't really compare to Cliff Burton, but still becomes an important part of Metallica. James Hetifield as at vocals( the voice of metal), does a great job, not being as agressive as his performances Kill em' All or Ride the Lightning, but still does a great job.
....And Justice For All, has to be Metallica's most mature album, changing their music style, along with adding more to the songs. This album has to be the best put together Metallica album out their; can't top Master of Puppets, but is really great. ....And Justice For All, is probably the most under-rated Metallica album, with some people complaining about the sound production or the album taking a bit more of a mature and more complex feel, instead of that Raw edge. In, fact their are elements of "Master of Puppets" and "Ride the Lightning" mixed together, along with some new tricks. I see what people mean when they say that this band was Rage before the mechines; as the speaki in their songs about injustice.
This album contains a great combination of songs like the legendary "One", the speedy and agressive "Blackened", along with the instrumental "Frayed Eyes of Sanity", and much more. The album is gold from beginning to end; showing what Metallica can do!!! This album has to be actually one of the greatest albums of all time, never failing to sastify. This album is still in fact selling after being on the market for about 17-18 years latter with fans still raving about how great it is. That fact alone tells you what kind of impact early Metallica 1983-1990 left on the music industry. I listen to this Cd pretty much every day. If your a new Metallica fan this and Master of the Puppets should, be the first two you should look into. Metallica is called "Mighty Metallica" for a reason!!!
Now here's a basic overview of the songs which rate anywhere from 0/+10; +10 being the highest and 0 being the absolute lowest. Everything on this album will be 9 or above so you have nothing to worry about.

3/ A very, very suck ass; sad excuse for a song
2.5/ My ears are starting to bleed

1.5/ At this point it's now considered trash
1/ I'd rather tear my ears off than ever listen to that again.
0/ Rather set myself on fire, and beat my self up, while being attacked by a wild man eating bear, and being hit over the head by a sledge hammer, than ever listen to this again.
-1 or below/ An absolute masterpiece OMG(sarcasm)...... by this point really you get the idea it's not something you should listen too.
Blackened/+10/ I myself really loved this song and is an fine example of what Metallica. With the fast and agressive vocals with Hammert's famous guitar solos and Ulrich's machine gun drumming; constantly twisting and changing in tempo. This is truly a work of art and a masterpoiece. An Personal Favorite!!!
...And Justice For All/9.5/ One long motha... clocking in at almost 10 minutes in lengeth. Very fast and agressive, speaks out against unjustice; and really packs a punch. Not my absolute favorite, but heck of a good song.
Eye of the Beholder/9.5/ Great song, has elements of Blackened and ... And Justice For All, blended into it. Great guitar action as well. Great song in general, but nothing to make this legendary, at all.... yet respectable.
One/+10/ This has to be one of Metallica's most powerful and moving songs of all time. It tells a tale about a soldier who lost both his sight and hearing, due to a land mine( during Vietnam) it starts off slow and staedy similar to Fade to Black see Ride the Lightning. Then it turns into a series of heavy guitar solos and such. This is the highlight of the album along with Blackened. This is one of Metallica's greatest songs of all time.
The Shortest Straw/9.5/ One of the shorter songs on the album, but still very fast and agressive. A catcy song as well, but nothing compared to One, but still some kick @$$ metal to go. Love tempo changes, very fast, very agressive period.
Harvester of Sorrow/9/ Has more an evil feel, probably the weakest song on tha album though. Kind of similar to Dyer's Eve, revealing Hetifield's troubled past and how relationships break. Loved the sound effects of the Imperial Walkers.
Frayed Eyes of Sanity/9.5/ More of an instrumental song, starting off with the Wizard of Oz theme, than turns right into metal maddness with the guitar blaring. A great song for head banging.
To Live Is To Die/9.5/ This song is an complete instrumental song; like Call of the Ktulu and Pulling Teeth; kind of dedicated to their lost friend Cliff Burton(R.I.P), I loved it!!!
Dyer's Eve/10/ A plainly great song almost as good as Blackened themed like Harvester of Sorrow, talking more about personal issues very fast and agressive, could of maybe used a longer solos besides that the song is nearly perfect and showcases what the band is capable of doing.
Overall, ... And Justice for All is an great album, could have possibly been the best, vut due to the sound production. It still deserves a lot of credit. An absolute masterpiece. Metallica's most complex album for certain, I must say.
I rate this a 9.5/10 or by the Amazon.com Rating system a 5/5.

Description of ...And Justice For AllContains two regular weight 33-1/3 RPM vinyl discs in single pocket Stoughton jacket with insert. And Justice For All , Metallica's fourth studio album was the thrash metal band's commercial breakthrough. This record has so much good material that it's a shame the production is so shoddy. Songwise, this is probably Metallica's most sophisticated album, exploring the theme of justice and perversions thereof with a vengeance. "One" is one of their best songs ever, building from a slow, edgy beginning into effortless overdrive. The title track is excellent and never boring, despite clocking in at more than nine minutes. It's the epic of the album, but all of the songs are long, displaying impressive chops and songwriting. Metallica took a commercial turn after ...And Justice for All, and it's interesting to speculate on what would have happened to their music had they continued in the direction suggested by this album. --Genevieve Williams Having already established themselves as the streetwise saviors of heavy metal's oft-tainted legacy in the '80s, Metallica rebounded from the accidental death of original bassist Cliff Burton to produce their most thematically challenging, musically accomplished album to date. Despite James Hetfield's dank, extended portraits of a world collapsing from corruption and decadence--themes that virtually guaranteed it little radio or television exposure--the album was nonetheless a muscular commercial success. Even "One," its complex, seven-and-a-half-minute adaptation of Dalton Trumbo's "Johnny Got His Gun," managed to scale the singles charts. Other highlights include "Blackened," "Eye of the Beholder," and the sweeping "To Live Is to Die," tracks that underscore a sense of musical ambition that's often downright prog-centric, yet never merely self-indulgent. --Jerry McCulley
