Music Review: A Fallen Star

Again, we are forced to listen to her sing a boring set of pop and jazz standards, along with some show tunes and a gospel number. Melba is not a jazz singer and should not attempt that genre. The biggest embarrassment, however, is her horrific reading of Mary Wells' "My Guy". Moore literally butchers the song into little pieces! Surprisingly, none of the singer's hits from the late 70s and 80s are not represented here, which is a bitter disappointment because if songs like "Falling" or "Living For Your Love" would have been included in this repetoire, this DVD/CD release could have been the singer's crowning glory. But, regrettably, the chance has passed.

I'm sorry to be so hard on Melba because I know she had been through a lot over the past several years and I am happy she's attempting a comeback. I was once one of her biggest supporters. I can only imagine what wonderful things Melba would be capable of again if paired with the right producers and songerwriters.

Melba is to be commended for her perseverance. But if Moore wants us to take her seriously ever again, she needs to come up with something way more stirring than "Night At St. Lucia".
