Music reviews of Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?

Music Review: Megadeth's 2nd straight 5 star album and what an album it is!
Rating: 5 Stars

This album is an absolute classic and is tied for the best thrash metal album ever recorded. It's tied with Megadeth's 1990 epic metal classic, "Rust In Peace." Before I go on to review the actual album, I want to make myself loud and clear on something: ANYONE WHO DOESN'T APPRECIATE MEGADETH, TALKS CRAP ABOUT DAVE MUSTAINE OR ANY OTHER MEGADETH BAND MEMBER, WHO THINKS THAT MEGADETH IS OVERRATED WHEN THEY'RE REALLY THE MOST UNDERRATED BAND OF ALL TIME, WHO THINKS THAT MEGADETH'S MUSIC SUCKS, OR THAT THINKS THAT MEGADETH ARE A TALENTLESS BAND IS A POSER WHO EITHER KNOWS JACK CRAP ABOUT MEGADETH, IS JUST JEALOUS THAT MEGADETH IS THE BEST BAND EVER AND THE BEST BAND OF THE "BIG 4" OF THRASH, AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT METAL MUSIC SHOULD SOUND LIKE!!! Okay, enough of that already, lets go on to the review! This album is a classic in every sense of the word. With THIS album, Dave Mustaine and Chris Poland both reached guitar-god status. Their solos on this album are as expected, STUNNING! Dave's solos have incredible speed and anger! His solos are like machine gun fire spitting out blood! NO ONE can mach his fury when it comes to solos! Chris's solos are just as fast, but also have incredible melody and feeling in them. His solos are just as mind-blowing as Dave's if not more! Chris was arguably the best guitarist Megadeth ever had. The bassist is Dave Ellefson and let me tell you, he's THE MOST UNDERRATED bassist EVER!! He does great bass lines in songs like "The Conjuring" and "Bad Omen", but his obvious highlight is his bass line in the ANTHEM title track, "Peace Sells." Probably the weakest point in the album are Gar Samuelson's(RIP) drums. They're not bad, but they're nothing to write home about either. Although he does put on some great performances in some songs on this album. Now, lets get to the songs on this album:

1. Wake Up Dead: You can't start off an album any better than this folks. This song has changing riffs after changing riffs, time changes, and mind-blowing solos including a little jazzy solo by Poland to give the song originality and closure. A "Wake Up Dead, you die!" chorus ends the song. A perfect way to start off this classic record! 19.9/10

2. The Conjuring: This song is kind of like "Wake Up Dead" except for the guitaring isn't as brutal but that doesn't mean that the song doesn't still kick some a**. The song starts off with a great intro and then the song shifts into high gear. Dave Mustaine sings really well in this song and he does two cool solos including a great haunting one in the beginning. This song has great, crazy riffs. A little shredding solo by Dave Mustaine ends the song. Another musical stunner! 13/10

3. Peace Sells: If you haven't heard of this song, you must've been sitting under a rock for all your life. Do I really have to say anything about this classic that hasn't already been said? Dave Ellefson's bass line to this song is legendary and is the best bass line ever! The riffs are insane, and you have to love Chris Poland's solo fills in this song! The BEST metal song ever tied with the 5th track on this album! 20/10

4. Devils Island: I love the finger-tapped guitar intro by Dave Mustaine in this song! Every time I listen to the intro, I can't help but to head bang to it! Eventhough this song isn't as complex as the rest of the songs on this album, it has brutal riffs and it kicks a**! I love the chorus of "Devils Island!" in this song! Two great shredding solos are included in this song: 1 by Dave Mustaine in the middle of the song and 1 by Chris at the end of the song. Chants of "Devils Island!" and smashing drums end the song. An underrated Megadeth classic! 19.9/10

5. Good Morning/Black Friday: My oh my where do I start with this one?! This song starts off with the BEST intro ever beautifully done by Chris Poland as only he can. He does 2 beautiful, melodic solos under great acoustic guitar work. Dave also does two solos in the intro. They are shredding and are just as stunning as Chris's. After the intro, things start getting REALLY HEAVY with the "Black Friday" part. This second part of a two-part song features brutal, CRAZY riffs and BRUTAL lyrics including murderous "I will cut you down!" ones. After Mustaine says that line the first time, the song then starts shifting into even higher gear and that's when we are treated to, in my opinion, the most captivating solo in the metal genre. Chris's solo is EPIC and JAW-DROPPING!! He plays the solo at a blistering pace with, believe it or not, as much brutality as a Mustaine solo. This solo is what I call a climactic moment!! The song's not over though since there's one more verse of lyrics and a BRUTAL ending with the classic "It's Black Friday, paint the devil on the wall!" chant. I don't think that Megadeth EVER did another song with as much brutality and hate as this one. This song is tied for "Peace Sells" and "Holy Wars/The Punishment Due" from Megadeth as the BEST metal song of all time! This is what metal is all about! STUNNING and EPIC!!! 20/10

6. Bad Omen: I LOVE the intro to this song. The intro has great, haunting acoustic melodies, very creative drumming(in my opinion, this song has the best drum work by Gar along with "GM...BF" in this album), crazy usage of virbrato in the guitars, and an outstanding, crazy Chris Poland solo. When the intro is over, Dave Ellefson does a crazy bass line and then the song starts getting faster. Eventhough this song isn't as heavy as "GM...BF(what song can be?)", it's pretty darn close. The song has CRAZY riffs and 3 CRAZY ALL-OVER-THE-PLACE solos by Mustaine. The ending features a "No one can save!" chorus and some CRAZY riffs by Mustaine and Poland. A SEVERLY UNDERRATED Megadeth classic! 19.9/10

7. I Ain't Superstitious: I don't know why people say that this cover song sucks! Yeah, it's very much out of place on this album but I actually think that it's great. All of the solos on this song are done by Chris Poland and they are of course, amazing!! I actually think that it was a good idea for Megadeth to do a cover like this since this song kind of gives them a cool, unique sounding song in their catalogue instead of just all metal songs. Of course, Megadeth jazz up this blues song with metal fury. This cover song isn't as good as "These Boots(which I think should have become a Megadeth classic)" but it's excellent none the less. A very unique sounding song for Megadeth. 10/10

8. My Last Words: if you want to talk about a legendary way to finish off this legendary record, here it is people, My Last Words. This song has yet again a great intro that includes a great solo by Poland. After the intro, the song starts turing into, you guessed it, another THRASH BALL! I really like Mustaine's voice on this song! He sings about Russian roulette. This song has a really fast riff and a great riff when Dave is singing. All of these things are great, but it's the ending which really makes this song a classic. The ending to this song and this album is as classic in it's complexity as it is to the grand chants. The ending starts off with the classic, shredding Dave Mustaine solo that every 'DETH fan should know. In my opinion, it's one of the most captivating, fast, and creative solos of all time! And on an timeless record that features mind-blowing, blistering solos, it's the perfect last solo for the album! The chant of "You next victim, you next/turn to die!" is the best ending chant for a metal album in heavy metal history! It has classic written all over it! A "You....Die!" line ends the song and the album. Close the door shut on the best metal album of all time! 19.9/10

There you have it! The BEST metal album of all time! THIS ALBUM IS EASILY THE BEST ALBUM OF 1986!! IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE!! DON'T LISTEN TO THE BRAIN-DAMAGED CRITICS THAT CALL "REIGN IN BLOOD" OR "MASTER OF PUPPETS" THE BEST ALBUM OF 1986!!! "PEACE SELLS...BUT WHO'S BUYING?" EASLILY HAS THE BEST GUITAR WORK(OBVIOUSLY!), COMPLEXITY(ALSO OBVIOUS!), AND OVERALL MUSIC(IT'S NOT EVEN A CONTEST!) BETWEEN THOSE OTHER 2 ALBUMS!!! THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM OF 1986 AND IT SHOWS YOU WHY MEGADETH WERE AT ONE POINT THE MOST TALENTED BAND IN THE WORLD AND MEGADETH ARE THE BEST BAND EVER!! ENOUGH SAID!! BY THIS ALBUM OR YOU'RE METAL COLLECTION WILL BE FILLED WITH ANYTHING BUT PEACE!!!
