Music Review: Perhaps the greatest white rapper ever

"Here it comes, here it is and there it was!" Too bad his solo career went like the first line on the album. I liked him in 3rd Bass, and I like him solo even more. This is a phenomenally well-made record in every respect-- the writing, production, performances and overall energy are top-notch, especially for the time period. I am not big on white rappers but Serch is a genius, and a very balanced artist-- he tends toward rapping in his own voice, but is capable of different styles and has good dynamics. Fans of Beck's hip-hoppier stuff might really like this album, in addition to fans of Public Enemy, KRS-ONE, Eric B & Rakim, and other 'heady' hip-hoppers of the '90s.
Serch is a man who truly defies his ethnic description. Spike Lee cast him in 'Bamboozled' as the one white member of an Afrocentric rap group called 'The Mau-Maus' (as the police are dragging him away from the group, he keeps insisting he's black). He is a brilliant man, a humanist, a friend of logic and intelligence and one who seems to have sacrificed his personal art for helping others with theirs. This album features one of the first recordings of Nas, whose first solo album was later exec-produced by Serch. Thank you for all you've done, MC Serch! PLEASE TOUR THE WEST COAST!!
