Music Review: Great Retrospective with Enjoyable New Tracks

You can't argue with the hits. Songs like "3 AM," "Push," and "Bent" defined the alternative genre in the late '90s and early '00s. Each one is a post-grunge classic. Including six new tracks on a hit collection might seem unusual, but it works quite well here. These new songs are more in the pop/rock genre than most of the band's other material, and it's a nice change. Among them, the instant favorite "How Far We've Come" is a hopeful anthem that sits well with older hits. The sweetly sentimental "These Hard Times" is also not to be missed. 4 Stars.

After 28 million records sold worldwide, 5 Grammy nominations, and more #1 hits and weeks at #1 than any other artist in history at Adult Top 40 and Modern AC, Melisma/Atlantic recording group matchbox twenty is overdue for a Greatest Hits package. In order to create something truly special for their fans, the band returned to the studio to record their first new material in five years. Grammy-winning producer Steve Lillywhite oversaw the sessions in L.A., marking the band s first work with the renowned producer - whose credits include the likes of U2, The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, and many others. Out of the session came six brand-new songs, turning the package into a new EP with a bonus of 11 matchbox twenty hits.
