Music reviews of Stories & AlibisMusic Review: Song by Song Rating: 5 Stars
I have already written one review, but I thought that I would tell about each song, they are so good.1. Introduction-this is just a short introduction, but it sounds cool. It's a great way to lead into track 2. I like to think that tracks 1 and 2 are one song. 2. Your Stories, My Alibis-This song is good and I catch myself singing the chorus at work alot, but it is actually my least favorite on the cd. 8.5/10 3. Playing for Keeps-This song circulates within the four songs on this cd that I cant decide which is my favorite. In my opinion it has one of the catchiest and best choruses. It has a lot of energy. 10/10 4. Promise-This is another of the top four. This is the first song that I heard of Matchbook and the song that hooked me. It is one of the more emotional songs on the cd, but also has a lot of energy. "And now the stars aren't out tonight, but neither are we to look up at them." Sounds like a song about being on the verge of or right after a breakup. 10/10 5. Lovers and Liars-If I classified my four favorite as one song, this song would then be my second favorite. It has a nice chorus. It seems to carry the theme of not holding something against somebody else after they have apologized and cant do anything else. 9/10 6. TIger Lily-This is a really good slow song. It has a nice melody and tempo, but it all seems like one big verse to me. There really isnt much in it to hook you except the lyrics. "I'll be going through withdrawal of you for this one night we have spent." 8.5/10 7. Shadows like Statues-some of the heavier guitar riffs on the album. I really like this song because of the way it is structured. It starts off hard, then before the chorus it gets slower with soft melodic singing, "Youre so beautiful, did you hear a word I said?", then it gets harder. It is also one of the harder songs full of emotion. 9/10 8. My eyes burn-"My eyes burn, from these tears." Obviously this song is packed full of emotion. Another song where you will find yourself sing the chorus at work. This song actually had to grow on me, for others it is their favorite. Overall, a very good song. 9/10 9. She'll never understand-Another of my top four favorite. When I first listened to this track, I played it about 15 times in a row. This song, to me, has the overall catchiest guitar riffs. It is a fast paced and energetic song. It is impossible to listen to this song and not want to move your leg or something back and forth, or at least sing along. With the help of backup vocals from the band in the chorus, and lines like "I know somethings wrong, cause youve been gone too long, a f***in waste of my time is all that youve become," this song never gets old. 10/10 10. If all else fails-this song has a lot of emotion and is a cross between a sort of ballad and a good hard hitting song. I usually skip over this track to get to number 11 though. Im not saying it isnt good, but number 11 is just that much better. 8/10 11. Stay Tonight-If you like The Used, "Buried Myself Alive," then youll love this song as well. The guitar in the chorus actually sounds a little like it. This song has a ton of emotion and is probably gaining the lead on the other three favorites in my top four. If you ever break up with your boyfriend/girlfriend, or simply get mad at them, this is one of those songs that you crave to crank in your car and just drive, with your window rolled down and the wind blowing in your face as you reflect upon all...well, you get the idea. An awesome song! I'm actually going to give this one an 11. 11/10 13. The Greatest Fall(of all time)-you can tell this song was off of their EP. It seems a little out of place. Stories and Alibis has a rather different sound than West for Wishing. However, it is an awesome song, and my favorite off of the EP. On the other hand, also one of the songs I listen to least. 9/10 Sometimes listening to thirty second clips in random parts of songs on here doesnt quite help you decide if its good or not, so I hope this helps.
