Music Reviews of Party Doll & Other FavoritesMusic Review: Total crap Rating: 1 Stars
It's "live" and the worst mix job I've ever heard. I've never heard a bootleg this bad. On most of the songs you can hardly hear her, it sounds like she is singing in a different room than the one the instruments are in. The songs you can hear her on, she sounds like she is singing in a phone booth. My question is "How do you put a - (minus) in front of the 1 star rating minimum rating?" Definately do not buy this CD, and if you've just eaten don't even listen to it. I love all her other CD's but I won't even make my dog listen to this.
Music Review: Outstanding and unique Rating: 5 Stars
Mary Chapin Carpenter's latest release is a gem. With several cuts taken from live venues, the listener is treated to a variety that is truly pleasing. "Party Doll" has just the right diversity from moving ballads such as "Dreamland" and "Quittin' Time" to up-tempo classics such as "Passionate Kisses" and "He thinks He'll Keep Her". As usual, the musicians are outstanding, particularly the piano player on "I'll Take My Chances". This CD is a definite "must".
Music Review: Real Music! Rating: 5 Stars
I usually don't like Greatest Hits albums much because, after all, who wants to hear old songs over and over again? But this album is easily the best album I own. Mary Chapin does a great job of adding new songs and new versions of old songs (as well as some timeless favorites) to make a heartfelt, musical album full of variety and emotion. I listen to this album every night as I go to sleep and I especially like "Dreamland" for a lullaby! Buy this CD, you will not be sorry!
Music Review: 10,000 STARS!!!! Rating: 5 Stars
This cd is worth buying if for only one song....the song from "Fly Away home" is here...10,000 miles makes its first apperance anywhere on record and it is Chapin at her best. but there is plenty of other great stuff here as well....the hits live like "The hard Way" and "I take My chances" and some gems from her John lennon project and her children's cd. Whenever Chapin makes a new cd it is something special and this "greatest" is no expection!!!
Music Review: Good, but not great! Rating: 3 Stars
A significant portion of this album is taken from her "Come On, Come On" album, straight. There are some great songs on this album - the lullabye recording, and first song recorded with on the Letterman Show are personal favorites. I don't disagree with her selection of songs, but wish more were live recordings or new songs. If I had to do it over, I'd still buy this, but I agree with other comments that this seems like more of a grab bag, and less a cohesive story.
