Music Review: Gear Daddy Grows Up

I've had a soft spot in my heart for Martin Zellar ever since seeing the Gear Daddies my first time in 1990. He is a singer that will captivate you. I don't think his songwriting has ever been able to match his intensity as a singer, but that is not unusual. This is my favorite album of his that I own. "George and Tammy" is a heartbreaking ballad of apology and "Haunt My Dreams" is a rocker that highlights the fine quality of his backing band, The Hardways. This album is not a departure at all for Zellar but clearly shows a maturity both in content and sound from the Gear Daddies and his first solo album 'Born Under'.
