Music Review: Update on the new South Africa

This is great music. But even better if you've ssen the movie.
Here's what the moive is about, and it has a lot of edge....
Tsotsi is a powerful South African movie based on the tough, unflinching 1960's Athol Fugard story that speaks the voice of the township.
Comparable to the Brazilian favela movie, City of God, it is more personal. turning on an eerily sensitive portrayal by Presley Chweneyagae. The music track features the stirring new rap music of South Africa, kwaito.
"Tsotsi" won't sell tourists on South Africa, nor young males with its introspection and the kidnapping of a baby without hope of ransom. But it is a gripping tale of South Africa's children of the street, their free-floating threat and ultimate cost to society.
The viciousness and vulnerability of the lead, makes you feel you can reach out to him but at the cost you a bullet or stilletto to the heart.
Yet the lost seem capable of a rude redemption: the tsotsi saves a life....but only by taking another. He does a good deed but only after crippling an innocent person. Townships kids loved the movie often remarking "hey, that's like me." Ayy.
Once an apartheid parable about black-on-black township crime, the victims are now black, BMW-driving, security obsessed suburbanites. AIDS awareness abound. The only white performer is a hardened detective who blends with black South Africa. The acting is great, its technical achievement stunning and its update on the new South Africa so bracing, you admire them for avoiding the whitewash.
