Music Reviews of The High End of Low

Music Review: Better than EMDM but not as good as previous material.
Rating: 4 Stars

The tittle for this review pretty much sums it up. This is a good album and it is better than the prior album (Eat Me Drink Me) that so many of us Manson fans were dissapointed with. The High End Of Low isn't an instant classic and doesn't compete with Manson's musical trilogy (Antichrist Superstar, Holywood, and Mechanical Animals) but it is a fine album nonetheless. My favorite song is the bluesy "Four Rusted Horses" and my second favorite song is probably the glam sounding "Devour". Songs like "WoW", and "Arma Godd...f...geddon", and "We're From America" are Manson's signature industrial rock anthems. And the song "Running To The Edge Of The World".....well that song doesn't sound like a Marilyn Manson song at all....err, not shure what to think of that song yet. Anyways, if you hated EMDM, this album is better but don't expect another Antichrist Superstar....those days are history.....this is the Manson of today.

Music Review: See a new beginning rise behind the sun.
Rating: 4 Stars

After hearing the lead-off single, "We're From America," I was almost completely positive that High End of Low was doomed to be Manson's worst album and a final confirmation that he has indeed lost his creative edge as an artist. Thankfully, I was wrong. High End of Low features some of Manson's best stuff. Everything that's made him great in the past is here. And I've come to recognize and deeply appreciate how much he has matured as a person and musician over the years. This is not an album to miss this summer.
"Four Rusted Horses" is dark, bluesy and pure Manson.
"Into The Fire" is one of the saddest and most beautiful Manson songs ever written.
"Running to the Edge of the World" is similarly beautiful and reflective.
"Wight Spider," "Pretty as a $," "I Have to Look Up to See Hell," and "Armageddon" are some of the standouts.

Music Review: Thank god he's back
Rating: 4 Stars

You used to be able to buy a Marilyn Manson album without hearing any of it first. Even if Holy Wood sounded nothing like Smells Like Children, which sounded nothing like Mechanical Animals, you knew you were getting quality, very "listenable" music. But then someone's cocaine habit caught up to them, he decided to fire his band (except for Tim Skold), and release one of the worst albums of all time. Seriously, did ANYBODY enjoy Eat Me, Drink Me? Thankfully, Manson got some sense (and some band members) back, and came out with a great new album. Maybe he's going a little too commercial (a "postcard ad" for Manson ringtones? Seriously?), but in an era where Lil' Wayne and the American Idol Top 5 are the only ones selling albums, I've FINALLY found something I'm willing to spend my money on (and even pay extra for the "bonus disc")!

Music Review: Marilyn Manson takes on blues rock.
Rating: 5 Stars

The very first song on this album "Devour" is awesome! Right away your hooked. This is MM's seventh studio release....Manson's previous album (Eat Me Drink Me) is considered by most Manson fans (Mansonites) to be his least impressive material. On this album, Twiggy Ramirez returns to the band along with Ginger Fish on drums (and he also plays the piano on the song "Into The Fire", and Chris Vrenna formerly of Nine Inch Nails, and the band Tweaker. The song "WoW' is kinda industrial-pop....really strange sounding. I love it! All of the Goth-Industrial flavor is here along with Manson's Glam element, but the new thing being introduced on this album is primarily the blues. My favorite song on this album "Four Rusted Horses" is bluesy and unusual. Anyways, a good album...not my favorite MM album...but still a great album.

Music Review: Boring
Rating: 1 Stars

I, like many other people, was excited when I heard Manson use phrases like "brutal," "very violent," "I have my fire back," and "this will wipe the floor with anything we have done before" when describing this release. After hearing it, I have to ask What Planet Was He On???? This is not Antichrist Part II, which was the impression I was getting, but instead a pale and BORING imitation of Mechanical Animals. Not that I expect him to reproduce his earlier sound and take an artistic step backward, but if he is going to rehash his limited capabilities with this new cd, can't he at least rehash the sound people WANT to hear? After three VERY sub-par studio releases in a row, I do think the genius behind "Angel With the Scabbed Wings," "Coma White," and "Lunchbox" is long gone.
