Music Review: the evolution of the pope
Rating: 5 Stars

marilyn mAnSoN whether you love him or loathe him[i was the second one for years] till i decide to pick up a greatest hits "lest we forget" and i was introduced to the warped beautiful world of brian warner aka Marilyn manson

i bought holywood a couple of weeks ago and i was besotted with the songwriting and metal brutality and acoustic deliverence
and i thought he wouldn't be able to top that album i was wrong
this album caused a stir when it came out with the P.C parade
of conservitive parents in the U.S.A branding M.M as obscene and a torch burning for all that is wrong with their society just because he wore a feminine bodysuit and
slaughtered god in his lyrics[i'm a christian and i don't find what he says to be offensive..it's his opipion and we live in a liberal world of free speech don't we? well..]

this album has two of the best opening a closing tracks ever
"great big white world" and "coma white"
this also features the single "the dope show" where he wears the feminine body suit and bashes "cops and queers"

it also features the super charged "rock is dead"
a observance on the state of rock music in 1998 after the demise of grunge four years before.

other top notch songs were "mechinical animals"[title track duh"]
"i want to disappear" "user friendly" "i don't like the drugs[but the drugs like me]

in a final summary
a classic album that some might be put of if their expecting the barnishing metal of it's predecessor..
but if you like david bowie and T.rex with a hint of adam ant then you'll lap this up as i have.

Music Review: Incredibly immaculate!
Rating: 5 Stars

First of all, I would like to commend Rev. Manson on this album, which I found to be his best yet. If you take a look at the album (really close), you will notice all of the messages hidden behind the blue ink (like, "A SUN WITH NO PLANETS, BURNING IN CIRCLES"). If one reads more closely, they will notice that if the songs are put into the order given on the page with the credits, they seem to tell the story of Manson's life (as it is read in his autobiography, "Long Hard Road Out Of Hell"), from his beginnings as Marilyn Manson (Disassociative) to a cataclysmic ending (The Last Day On Earth) that seems to symbolize an event Manson sees happening in the future. Manson's use of symbolism ads a little bit of a theme to the album (a "girl" named Coma White; unfeeling people being seen as "mechanical animals"; space; and television, movie, and rock stars as "drugs"), as it also did with Antichrist Superstar (the cycle of the worm turning into an angel). The most interesting thing about this album is that, even though he speaks badly of "machines" and the like, his cd is enhanced, so that you can hear the fifteenth song on your CD ROM. The fifteen also has some sort of symbolism (the album came out on September 15; on his last birthday, he turned 30, which is twice 15; etc.), but is unclear as to what it means. There might be an explanation in the lyrics of the album, but I have yet to find it. All in all, I must say that this album is superb, and I could rant and rave all day about it, but there is a one-thousand word limit. Just go buy the album, and see what you think.

Music Review: A Different Kind of Manson
Rating: 5 Stars

In 1996, Marilyn Manson released the album "Antichrist Superstar". It sparked widespread controversy due to many people misunderstanding the theme. Therefore, many protested against their concerts claiming the lead singer of the same name preaches satanism. However, in 1998, they released the album "Mechanical Animals" that would explore a newer Marilyn Manson. They traded the unusual goth clothing for a glam-rock appearance that some say returns to the David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust days.

Aside the image, they experiment with different and more mellow rock sounds that match well with their wardrobes. Some songs contain other musical genres that offer the added creative sound: electronica and psychedelic rock. Such variety offers a great musical journey throughout the album, starting with "Great Big Wide World". Marilyn Manson, the band, wrote these songs wonderfully while never misplacing a note. Despite the more mellow approach, some songs remain raunchy as before. In fact, the lyrics give the mellow songs its signature edge. The newfound drug theme remains interesting, always keeping listeners' close attention to the words. Manson sings these them very expressively, keeping the hardcore edge intact. He screams them and croons them at the perfect moments. One must tremendously respect him for expressing such issues openly. Therefore, he speaks to a nation wonderfully.

Though the glam-rock phase was temporary, "Mechanical Animals" is an album that listeners will never forget. This is sure to please many rock fans.

Music Review: 1998's best rock album by far
Rating: 5 Stars

1996 saw the release of Manson's Antichrist Superstar, the angriest, ugliest, and most provocative album of that year and one of the most disturbing (in a good way) recordings in rock. That album rightfully put Manson on the map as a challenging, abrasive, rule-defying rock icon who was loved, hated, but never ignored. The question remained, however: how could he possibly follow up Antichrist? How much more bitter and twisted could an album be? The answer: not much. So Manson did the only wise thing: he completely reinvented himself. The result is Mechanical Albums, a terrific piece of work that establishes Manson as more than just a nightmarish screamer. The album is full of great songs, great lyrics, and great production. The album is especially revealing because it presents an artist who is somewhat ambivalent about his hard-earned fame. The tension this produces in songs such as "I Want to Disappear," "Dope Show," "New Model" and others makes for highly listenable, memorable rock music. Which is a lot more than can be said for 99% of today's cookie-cutter, one-hit-wonder bands. Manson, who also explores such issues as drug abuse, gender, the emptiness of fame, sex, and pop culture at the millenium, switches styles with effortless ease. At times roaring guitars and pounding drums dominate, while other songs are actually quite delicate and heartbreakingly beautiful ("Speed of Pain," "Last Day On Earth"). Manson scores big here with 1998's best hard rock album by far. Check it out.
