Music Review: As a bilingual educator Universe of Song is great tool !

Having worked with children day in and day out for over 15 years in the classroom. I have a treasure of special music CDs I love to use. All of Maria Del Rey's CDs belong in my favorites catagory. They are expertly done imbued with such joy and musicianship. I have found great success when children hear a phrase in their native language then in the language they desire to learn, they gain a sense of confidence with the power of music learning phrase by phrase. Kid tune out when
it's all in one language. Del Rey is brilliant to unite all the tools I need for teaching and cultural awareness with out the usual snobbery I see in other educational materials. Maria
Del Rey's cheerful and beautiful voice works wonders for the class morale as well.

Despite American schools' penchant for introducing foreign language at the middle-school level, research continues to prove that the earlier a child is exposed to a second language, the more likely she/he is to become bilingual. Based upon this tenet, in addition to Music for Little People's strong commitment to multicultural edu-tainment for children, the label has issued Uni Verse of Song as the first in a series of bilingual recordings especially created for children from preschool through fourth-grade levels. Featuring acclaimed artist Maria del Rey, she is here joined by a group of children singing standard American tunes in both English and Spanish.
