Music Review: Fantastic performance. Amazing value.

So this is a cut-price disc. You would never know, except, of course, for the miniscule sleeve notes. Benita Meshulam's playing is more than adequate. At times, it's inspired. Her performance of the Ritual Fire Dance from El Amor Brujo is utterly electric. Perhaps you will find better interpretations of individual works, especially the dances from the Three-Cornered Hat, but these two discs present the complete piano music of Manuel de Falla and, as such, a unique insight into his genius. For those who don't know his music, it is quintessentially Spanish, Andalusian to be precise. But it is also virtuosic, highly pianistic and of the very highest quality of inspiration. Fantastic performance. Amazing value.
