Music Reviews of CoverageMusic Review: Awesome Surprise! Rating: 5 Stars
While most people dismiss Mandy as a teeny bop pop star this CD will definately prove them wrong..This CD was sadly overlooked when released and ,yet,it is by far one of the best 'cover' albums I've heard..rather than just change the styles and add her own twists to the originals, Mandy makes the songs her own while staying true to the original and sings them from the heart and soul even though most of these songs were written and performed before Mandy was even born...She is spunky, fun, soulful, and does a beautiful job on every track...so much so that I listen to it constantly from beginning to end without skipping a single track because they're all excellant! Favorites(which are really hard to say since I like them all!) are "The Whole of the Moon","Can We Still Be Friends?","Drop The Pilot","Moonshadow","Breaking Us in Two",and "Help Me" but, like I said I love every cut! I'm actually old enough to remember when these songs first came out so if this CD can enchant an older guy like me it will be a great CD for older people who might have run from it and definately a must for those too young to have heard the originals and can now discover them...KUDOS to Ms.Moore for an awesome,up lifting, gorgeous CD that anyone can enjoy...she's a huge cut above the crop of 'new' teen girl singers like Britney and Jessica and she proves it with her "Coverage" CD...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

When mainstream artists choose to re-make older songs, the tracks that are re-done are often radio hits that exist in several forms already. With Mandy Moore's 2003 album, "Coverage", this practice took on a slightly different feel. While all the tracks on the record are covers (hence the title), they are relatively unknown to today's fans.
It's unusual for someone choosing to cover 70s and 80s songs to pick hits by artists like Todd Rundgren, Carly Simon, or Cat Stevens. This, however, is exactly what Moore has done. There are no Eagles or Fleetwood Mac to be found; not that those artists are bad, per se, but that their music is so often re-done that modern listeners are already familiar with it.
Not only are the songs different choices for a teen singer to cover, but the tracks are well-done. The original versions shine through, and while Mandy has put her hallmark vocals on the hits, they aren't changed around beyond recognition. For perhaps the first time since the 1960s, when re-making songs was common practice, tunes are displayed with respect to the original artist.
Normally, I stray away from covers. But this CD is simply full of good music. Listening to these tunes, I have a new appreciation for the lesser-known tracks by Elton John and Cat Stevens. And isn't that the whole idea behind listening to music?
Music Review: Get Mandy Moore Coverage Rating: 4 Stars
Let me start with a disclaimer, I'm not a true Mandy Moore fan (I'm much too old to join that group). I bought the album because I'm a fan of the artists, and songs, she chose for the endeavor. I've always respected Moore for not following the pack and staying true to herself. While the rest of the "Class of 1999" have resorted to using their sexuality to sell their records, Mandy Moore has decided to let her music do the talking. Moore has created a smart, well-crafted and mature cover record that should still appeal to her core audience . With songs from a diverse group that ranges from Cat Stevens to Joe Jackson, Mandy stays fairly faithful to their original versions of the songs; but still is able to make them her own. The album opens with upbeat covers of XTC's "Senses Working Overtime" and the Waterboys'"The Whole of the Moon" that set the tempo for the rest of the record (Mandy's voice is also much more palatable than either Andy Partidge or Mike Scott). Her choice to cover such strong female singer-songwriters as Carole King (I Feel the Earth Move), Carly Simon (Anticipation), Joni Mitchell(Help Me) and Joan Armatrading (the cover of "Drop the Pilot" is incredibly dead on) shows she's a young woman who knows her stuff. Hopefully, Mandy will follow these women, and this project, with years of great music.
Music Review: Suprisingly Great CD Rating: 5 Stars
I've always been a fan of Mandy Moore, but lately my taste in music has been changing, drifting away from the pop, and I was afraid these covers would be too... pop-y. I've always had a very broad taste in music, because both of my parents like a lot of different types of music, so I was brought up listening to stuff a lot of people aren't familiar with, like XTC. Most people my age (I'm 17) have NO idea who XTC, Cat Stevens, or Joe Jackson are. I was familiar with most of the songs on this album before I got it, but the only cover from this album I had heard was Have A Little Faith In Me. I was a little skeptical, because sometimes covers of songs that are so great to begin with turn out kinda crummy. But, from the moment I heard Senses Working Overtime, I was hooked, and I can't stop listening to this album. Mandy did a great job with these songs. The music sounds awesome, her voice sounds so mature... She's definitely grown up, and I mean that in the best way. I have to give her major props for her song choice. I think it says a lot about HER personal taste in music to choose the songs she did. A lot of people might stay away from this cd because Mandy is usually grouped in the 'blond-haired, young, female teen singer' bubble, but I think they'd be suprised and impressed. Give it a try, it's worth it.

I truly enjoyed Mandy's sophomore album with its Eastern sounds and on a pure pop level I didn't understand why that disc didn't connect with fans of both Mandy and the pop music genre.
This album in contrast shows that Mandy is a very courageous young singer who took a chance in reaching back to cover songs from the past. As I listened to this disc, I did hear a lot of growth in her vocal performances but unfortunately fans who grew up with her did not support the record or connect to the songs.
My favorite tracks are: CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS (her voice sounds so pretty on this track); DROP THE PILOT, HELP ME, BREAKING US IN TWO & I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE.
HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN ME - nice but she didn't do enough with the track to make it interesting
ONE WAY OR ANOTHER - dreadful cover of a Blondie classic, although I find the band's musical production stellar, her vocals are not strong or unusual enough to power this song
Overall I think this is a very good pop album and hopefully Mandy will get signed to a label with the creative force to help her produce an album that connects with the public without her having to sell out her image.
