Music Review: Good, if you pretend it ends at track 12...

The first twelve tracks on this disc are worth the price of admission. It consists of their best work through two albums, and it is a shining example of fine Irish 80's metal. The brothers had a good chemistry and this material does not sound that dated. They had a good balance of guitar, pounding drums, catchy choruses and even a little bagpipe in there. The keyboards were used moderately and effectively through the first twelve tracks, and the songs are memorable. The songs from 'Power and Passion' are probably the best, with 'straigtforward', 'hard n loud', and 'power and passion' being the real standout cuts.
Unfortunately, the last six tracks are so bad that I honestly recommend you buy this disc and re-burn it minus those tracks.
Indeed, they are so bad that I physically "X'd" through them wtih a sharpie on my copy and wrote DO NOT PLAY with brackets next to them.
The last six tracks are an embarrassment to rock n roll and I hope that guy singing (he is not one of the brothers) as well as the producer of those keyboard-syrupy, badly vocalized 'songs' are serving fries now somewhere for this shameful debacle. What a horrific mishandling of a good band.
Even Gene Simmon's pizz-poor handling of the great Black n Blue was better than this. Congrats Gene, you are no longer the worst producer to screw up a band's sound.
Those last six songs are quite obviously something that was done to fulfill a contract and nothing more. Seriously, listening to Disney channel theme songs is better. And if you have ever heard and enjoyed the Chili Pepper's rendition of 'Higher Ground'...you sure won't wanna hear the one on this collection.
It would have been better to have left things at two records. But anyway, just think of it as a 12-song compilation and you'll be okay. AT least the compiler had enough sense to not mix up the order on the cd.
This cd would have gotten four stars if the last 6 'songs' were not on it.
Buy this cd, but don't play past track 12.
