Music Review: Madonna: REMIXED & REVISITED (2003)

In November of 2003, Madonna released her fifteenth album entitled, REMIXED & REVISITED, making this album her second remix compilation, the first being 1987's YOU CAN DANCE. This album is simply amazing, with four killer remixes from AMERICAN LIFE, a live recording of an MTV VMA Performance, an unreleased song from the BEDTIME STORIES recording sessions, and a collaboration with Missy Elliott from a GAP commercial.
NOTHING FAILS (Nevins Mix)
Original version from the album AMERICAN LIFE (2003). The original album version was a beautiful song, with Madonna singing it beautifully. I cannot believe how amazing this remix sounds. It's amazing how Madonna can turn her original ballad into a kick-a** dance remix.

Medley: LIKE A VIRGIN/HOLLYWOOD (with Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, & Missy Elliott)
Live from the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. This is one hell of a performance. It all starts off with Britney Spears at the top of a wedding cake, dressed in a wedding dress (complete with the TOY BOY belt). She starts off the performance with the first verse of "Like A Virgin". But Britney does not sing the chorus, for Christina Aguilera walks around from the back of the cake, dressed in the same wedding dress (complete with the BOY TOY belt), and sings the chorus. They both sing the WHOA OH OH OH lines, while rolling around the stage in their dresses. Suddenly, Madonna enters by arising from the wedding cake, dressed in a groom's jacket (with tails) and top-hat. She comes out to sing "Hollywood". She sings the song's first verse twice. After singing the first verse twice and removing her groom's jacket to reveal a black tank-top, Madonna, Britney, and Christina sing the chorus. Madonna goes back to the first verse of "Hollywood", and then lands a huge kiss on both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Missy Elliott then joins the ladies, where she sings a reworked verse to her 2002 hit, "Work It". After the "Work It" interlude, the band jumps back into "Hollywood", with Missy Elliott joining the ladies in singing the last four or five lines of the song, making this another controversial, but extremely memorable performance by Madonna, The Queen Diva.
INTO THE HOLLYWOOD GROOVE (The Passengerz Mix) (with Missy Elliott)
This song was used in the GAP commercial that both Madonna and Missy had shot back in the summer of 2003. The commercial version of this song, was out of order. But this is the full version that features Madonna singing the first verse to Hollywood, and Missy finishing out this song's first verse with a rap, leading Madonna into singing newly written "Into The Groove" choruses. The second verse is left on here from the original "Into The Groove" recording, along with the origianl bridge ("Live out your fantasies here with me...etc"). Great fusion of both "Into The Groove" and "Hollywood".
YOUR HONESTY (Previously Unreleased)
Recorded during the BEDTIME STORIES album sessions. A great track that was recorded back in 1994, when Madonna was working on her BEDTIME STORIES album. Now, when you put together an album, you don't just record the songs that are already on the album, you record a whole slew of songs, and you make your final selection. Unfortunately, Madonna did not choose for this song to be featured on her BEDTIME STORIES album, but luckily, she decided to include it here. This is a great song, and you dare not skip it.
This is a great album. Yes, it is only seven tracks, but hey, the quality of this album is amazing, and you won't even think about how this album only features seven tracks. An amazing album here.

MADONNA REMIXED & REVISITEDThis EP?s remixes do a fine job of rehabilitating Madonna?s largely ignored American Life album. Jason Nevins supplies a powerful mix of the moving "Nothing Fails" that deserves to be the hit that returns the superstar to saturation play, while versions of "Love Profusion" and "Nobody Knows" suggest that these songs, too, haven?t been given enough credit as the minor late-Madonna classics they are. "American Life" itself takes on new wattage with this literally bangin? hard-rock remix. "Your Honesty," an outtake from the disc?s sessions, recalls a number of superior Madonna dance tracks; its you?re-good-for-me sentiment is believably sweet. The MTV Video Music Awards medley works less well as a merely audio artifact than it did on-screen with that kiss, while one hopes that the next time Missy Elliott collaborates with Madonna, it yields a more substantial result than this CD?s slight remake of "Into the Groove." --Rickey Wright
