Music Reviews of Careless LoveMusic Review: High Fidelity Blues! Rating: 5 Stars
"I've seen love go by my door, never been this close before"
Tasty blues, seductive vocals. Fresh arrangements.
Traditional songs with 40's style jazz rhythmic devices coupled with fresh arrangments, modern chord voicings, and high fidelity recording techniques make the CD a mystical anachronism. Quite Excellent!
"Dance me to the end of love" - Seductive vocals reminiscent of Billie Holiday. Features a nice blues piano.
"Don't wait too long" - Happy blues with organ and a nice jazz guitar solo (1:25)
"You're gonna make me lonesome" - Might be the best track on the cd. A very light feel, with brushes, acoustic bass, jazz guitar and piano.
"No more" - medium tempo blues. Cool jazz guitar turn-around.
"Careless Love" - Really cool blues with featured organ.

Music Review: Careless Beauty. Rating: 5 Stars
I bought recently this album and I must say that it was a very refreshing discovery. Madeleine has a very beautiful voice that seems to come out of her effortlessly. Without a doubt this album should be one of the new classics in the Vocal front, competing favorabily with some of the new talents like Norah Jones and Diana Krall as well as the all time Jazz classics.
The music is a combination of soft jazz with very nice piano and trumpet arrangements that serve as a elegant and powerful backdrop for madeleine's remarkable vocal capabilities. If you want to go and try a couple of songs, I recomend you to listen to "Dance me to the end of Love" and "You are going to make me Lonesome when you Go", these two will give you a very good idea of what to expect in the album.
Easily one of the best vocal releases of 2004.
Music Review: Revelation through amazon Rating: 5 Stars
I browsed amazon earlier today, and came across Madeleine Peyroux. I checked out some of her stuff, and found her beautiful version of Between the bars.
Just now, I read the review by the person who heard her music at Barnes&Noble and ended up trying to find out who it was for ages, and I had a sudden revelation.
While I was in the US 2 months ago, I also spent some time reading in a Barnes and Noble store in Georgetown, DC, and there was this beautiful jazz music playing. The song was very familiar - Elliott Smith, I just couldn't figure out which one - and the voice too (Billie Holiday?) Afterwards I checked if Mr Smith had done any jazz covers, but to no avail. And now I found it! Small world. Madeleine Peyroux, my new love.. Thanks amazon, thanks B&N, and that person in Florida who had this same revelation... Funny thing.

It's kind of spooky the way this woman channels Billie Holiday. The jury is divided: some argue that if you want to hear Billie Holiday, just put on some Billie Holiday. But we hold to the belief that good music is good music, and you can never have enough. Born in Georgia, raised in New York and Paris, Peyroux is this year's Norah Jones (she even penned a song with Norah collaborator Jesse "Don't Know Why" Harris). But this CD has a little more whiskey in it than Norah's records. It has the sweet, sweet stink of juke joints and barbecue and old `78s (without the scratches). Songs range from Holiday standards like "No More" and "I'll Look Around" to Josephine Baker's "Jai Deux Amours." But Peyroux truly shines on contemporary covers of Leonard Cohen, Elliot Smith and especially Bob Dylan's "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go."
Music Review: Good Golly... the first time you hear Dance Me To The End Rating: 5 Stars
of Love??? i STOPPED what i was doing, ordered the cd from amazon, then downloaded this song from iTunes and spent the night listening to the song on repeat!
a truthful lyric by leonard cohen, sung with a longing that drew me in...as almost no music ever has ~ david bowie singing wild is the wind, others...
you won't believe how powerful, how achingly powerful, this is - try the 30 second snippet and see what i mean...
it made me feel everything that had ever gone RIGHT in my life... everything that had gone terribly WRONG... a song should NOT be able to do that to a person, especially when you aren't prepared for it ~
one of the great musical experiences of my life ~
apparently, any other album by peyroux is disappointing ~ but this is a masterpiece that cuts through ~
