M?av N? Mhaolchatha was one of the more prominent members of the popular singing/musical group Celtic Woman. She has left the group to pursue a solo career, but before she joined the group, she recorded a CD that is a must have for anyone who loves Celtic music, Celtic Woman, or vocals that sounds as clear, pristine, and melodic as any that you will hear in any musical genre.
Meav performs traditional songs, and several new compositions. Every song is noteworthy, but some of the standouts are "I Dremt I Dwelt in Marble Halls," "I Wish My Love Was a Red Red Rose," "The Death of Queen Jane," and the favorite of many, the beautiful and haunting "Ailein Duinn (Dark Alan)," the theme to the film, "Rob Roy."
This CD will prove to be a treasure to many.
Description of M?av
A featured soloist with the Irish choral group Anuna, Meav garnered raves for her vocal contribution to the London and New York productions of Riverdance. A soprano with the surprising quality of a light and tightly focused pitch, the young vocalist steps out with her self-titled debut of Celtic traditional and classical pieces. Alternately accompanied by an Irish band or swelling orchestra, Meav's tones ring with bell-like clarity, and she seems to effortlessly unspool sound, moving from natural range to head voice with no shrill or heavy accents.
