Music Review: The best post-crash Skynyrd studio album!

Apparently the old Skynyrd mojo came around once more in 1997, what with the 20th anniversary of the plane crash and all. This is a true Skynyrd album, and IMO the only post-crash Skynyrd album of original songs that is up there with the old Ronnie-led Skynyrd of the 70's. I read an interview published around the time this album was released, and in it I believe it was Medlocke who said something to the extent of "We didn't have a lot of time to spend writing and recording for this album, so keep that in mind--we can do better!" Well, geez, Rickey, this album is just fine--and sorry to say--you guys haven't come close to topping it yet! There are lot of great songs on this CD! Some of the softer, acoustic-oriented numbers are a tad mediocre, but especially the rock songs are great! My favorite two are "We Ain't Much Different" and "O.R.R.". Those two numbers (and some others) would fit very nicely into any old Skynyrd albums--Ronnie would be proud! Speaking of Ronnie, I think recording "Travelin' Man" (which was never recorded in the studio anyway) with Johnny performing a duet with Ronnie's old vocal track was a stroke of genius! Great idea, Rickey (it was his idea)! Great rendition!
So I highly recommend this CD, even for old-Skynyrd diehards who scoff at any version of Skynyrd after 1977. For the most part, I'm an old-Skynyrd diehard myself, but I do take exception in this CD. Also, BTW, their Lyve At Steel Towne CD/DVD are also great, since the material comes from a mixture of old Skynyrd tunes and tunes from the Twenty CD. Great performances, as well!
