Music Review: lurrie in france

I saw Lurrie in Calais after a 6 hour drive down from Manchester & a Channel crossing that was extremely rough - however it was well-worth it all as he gave a stellar performance.
Like a young Otis Rush, he was totoall in commannd of his guitar &, even when he went down paths that seemed impossible, he extricated himsself with aplomb & an impressive feel for the music that cannot be taught.
I've got so many abums - &, despite my wife, I'm still buying - but this is one I can't stop playing.
In recent months (as in years past)Lurrie is most reluctantly living the life of someone who must know the blues inside-out; I wish him solace in his work & in his young child & many more years of productive work akin to this standard.

Among many awards and nominations in his career, Lurrie was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2010 with Best Traditional Blues Album, was nominated as Best Blues Guitarist in 4 of the last 5 years by the Blues Foundation, was voted Best Blues Guitarist in 4 of the last 5 years in the Living Blues Critics Poll, was voted Best Blues Artist in Chicago by Chicago Reader in 2008.Mercurial Blues was guitarist Lurrie Bell's first solo record in 8 years. Bell has often been cited as the best of the younger generation of Chicago Bluesmen and in Mercury Blues finally came out with a record that claimed that honor. Featuring appearances by Billy Branch and Jimmy Johnson, Let's Talk About Love is both a positive and uplifting experience and a hair-raising journey into the world of rough and tumble Chicago Blues. Having lost both his father (famed harmonica master Carey Bell) and his longtime companion Susan Greenberg in the year prior to its recording, Lurrie decided to make a record that reflected the emotions of love that he felt in his heart. ''Blues gives us a way to speak about what life is all about,'' says Bell, ''and I had a lot of feelings that I had to get out.''
