Music Review: The best declaimer of afrocuban poetry

Luis Carbonell is one of the best artists I remember from my childhood. There is not other who declaims afrocuban poetry so well and so gracefully. He is a true master on rhythm and metric, and I never saw him to make a single error in the times where the audio of the TV programs were taped, but the image was live because the video was not invented yet. Why, then, he isn't as famous as he deserves?. In my opinion, Luis Carbonell is, in artistic way, another victim of Castro's regime. He is black and gay and these are two characteristic persecuted by the regime. In addition, he never show a big enthusiasm about communism and this is a capital sin in that society. Then, as many others great cuban artists, he was almost forget by the government. And in Castro's Cuba, you can't do anything without the government agreement. The CD is a collection of several of his best works. The only problem is that in some tracks the audio isn't so good as I would like, perhaps because it were taken from an old vinyl acetate not enough cleaned by digital techniques, and in other cases because it was taped not in a studio but in a real theater, with the public making some noise. But nevertheless, the CD worth its value. If you really want to know what means afrocuban poetry, with all it's grace, rhythm and strength, you must buy it.
