Music Review: Wonderful Organ, Splendid Performances, Selections could be better

I guess that I actually expected much more inspirational music from this CD, never hearing it before, the CD being recorded on the splendid "Organ of the Mormon Tabernacle." The organist is as accomplished as any I have heard on any CD of pipe organ music. I do not have a large collection of this type music, but I do have 10 or 12 CDs that I consider great, pipe organ music played by world renouned organists on the magnificent organs found in the large cathedrals of the world. The Mormon Tabernacle Organ is one of these magnificent organs. Yet the music selections that are included on this CD are rather dry, non-inspirational, and somewhat difficult to involve oneself in the music. I can only guess as to why the organist selected the music to record that he did, perhaps he selected compositions that are seldom heard on other organ CD recordings, perhaps he selected some that elegantly display his superb skills as a concert organist. I just wish that I could have become more involved with this music whilst listening. I will not toss this CD, I will play it again, but certainly not frequently. The CD was not exactly a disappointment, it does have its merits of skill aptly displayed by the organist. A better selection of music would have made this CD outstanding on all counts.
