Music Review: About Time For Volumes 2 In This Series

As with the Red Foley, Kitty Wells, and Ernest Tubb entries in this MCA Country Music Hall Of Fame Series it's high time for a Volume 2. I mean, how can a single 16-selection CD do justice to a singer who had 77 charted Country hit singles from her first in 1960 [I'm A Honky Tonk Girl - # 14] to her last in 1993 [Silver Threads And Golden Needles [# 68 with Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton]?
Among those 77 she also had SIXTEEN # 1s, only six of which are included here [tracks 5, 6, 10, 11, 13, and 16], and five that reached # 2, with only tracks 4 and 15 representing that pinnacle. True, many of her top hits were duets with Conway Twitty, including four # 1s, but there's still plenty of solos left to fill out one and possibly two additional volumes.
Among the # 1 hits alone you have: Woman Of The World (Leave My World Alone), Rated "X", Love Is The Foundation, Trouble In Paradise, Somebody Somewhere (Don't Know What He's Missin' Tonight), and She's Got You. Added to those are in excess of 25 others that made it to numbers 3 to 10 on the Country charts.
Come on, MCA, give us a break. Meanwhile, fans, you'll love the quality of this compilation, including the discography of the 16 selections and the five pages of liner notes written by Chris Skinker of the Country Music Foundation.

Description of Country Music Hall of Fame Series
Lynn's distinction is as the first female country singer to write her own compositions. In doing so, she proved that women in country were capable of more that just torch songs and pop stylings. "You Ain't Woman Enough," "Don't Come Home A Drinkin'" "I'm A Honky Tonk Girl," "Fist City," and "You're Looking at Country" show a vibrant, independent woman with her own strong beliefs and keen observations. In her songs, she (literally) fights for her man's loyalty, stands up to his abuse, and moves on when he leaves. Among these 16 cuts are duets with Ernest Tubb and Conway Twitty, the controversial "The Pill" (yes, that pill), and her autobiographical trademark, "Coal Miner's Daughter."
