Music Review: Nickle Creek when they were very little

This first recording of the hot "new" Austin group, is delightful in extremis. The young doggies take on the warhorses of country western with youthful vim and vigor. I introduced this recording to my visiting three year old Andrew last weekend, and he and "Papa Mike" were enthralled. [In fairness, neither Andrew's mother, nor Mama Cheryl exprienced out joy.] They formed a background to enlighten him and his mother about the Western serials of my childhood, where we sat through 5 episodes for 10 cents on a Saturday morning after turning over my newspaper route collections.Although not of the same genre, I put it with love and nostalgia next to "Red-Headed Stranger" and "Man in Black."
In summary, like many other "firsts" of current hot rocks, this album is worthy of note for its preview of full-fledged talent. Although I enjoyed the Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Sons of the Pioneers selections for this recording, such tunes may not be appealing to those used to the authenticities of "Brother, Where Art Thou?" The price is high, but worth it. The choice of selections, despite my personal delight, causes me to downrate it from 4 stars.
