Music Review: Simply Wow... Aural Treasure

Being interested in rose windows, mandalas, and labyrinths as well as harps, I purchased this audio CD in the hopes that the aural experience would offer inspiration for those topics and also some peaceful sounds for relaxation and mediation. And I confess that I was enticed and enchanted by the title and the cover as well as by the interesting combination of lute and harp in "real" spiritual environment. I was not disappointed. This audio CD simply amazed me for its soul-felt depth and clarity. I felt immersed in the musicians' experience, synergy, and meditative mood. The music felt like living sound...now in the present. Closing my eyes, I could visualize sitting in the ancient churches listening to the performance. There is something distinctly human here, yet also otherworldly, fresh.

I loved reading the little commentary by Linn Barnes that was included on the CD's cover insert. What he said about St. Sulpice and its relationship to Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code made me stop and think about how an ancient place can be affected (positively AND negatively) by writers, readers, modern media, tourist expectations, myths, legends, and human curiosity. How our perceptions are shaped! In fact, Linn Barnes' comments prompted me to read more into the topics and to learn more about the churches. So, this CD has proven to be a satisfying product emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually. Worth the purchase if you want a new experience and new food for thought.
