Lene Marlin is from a genre of music which I do not often listen to. However I cannot help the fact that I find in her music something missing from most of her genre: feeling. The title tracm, "Playing My Game," will make you shudder to think that someone in the world probably think as much of you as she does of the target of that song. "Flown Away" is a beautiful slow piece that almost anyone can appreciate.The closing track, "A Place Nearby" is a song of a class that comes only once in a while. A very few artists have written songs that simply floor the emotional responce of the listener and are written about things that the listener knows nothing but, thanks to the song, feels like he or she can sympathize and understand.("Sleep" by Stabbing Westward is another). "A Place Nearby" is simply amazing and sold me on this artist the first time I heard it.
I most frequently compare Lene Marlin to a combination between Jewel, Faith Hill, and Dido. While her music style is very much a blend of the folk-pop of Jewel and country-pop of Faith Hill, her lyrical style is closer to Dido's. Overall, I found this album amazing. I don't know how to say "if you like this then you will like this," it is too unique in its genre. Still, there is something about this album that simply amazes me, and I have not played this album for an ear that did not like it yet.
