Music reviews of You Can't Stop the Bum Rush

Music Review: Use This CD To Sit Your Drinks On (1 Star)
Rating: 1 Stars

If you think THIS is a hip hop album, then you probably:

1) Lack melanin (look it up)

2) Have no idea what hip hop sounds like

Or

3) Both

With that being said, let me just point some things out:

1) Just because you hear rapping doesn't make the album a hip hop album (Linkin Park, anyone?).

2) Having your "hip hop" buddies (Biz Markie & Kurtis Blow) on your album DOES NOT make you "hip hop" by any means. In fact, by doing so you only magnify the fact that you are anything but a hip hop group (just ask Fred Durst).

Spooky Polka and The Walrus (the previous reviewers) hit the bullseye with their reviews. This CD does, in fact, suck major as creativly negative as you want to be with that blank space). I, like many of the previous reviewers, bought this CD back in '99 after having "Steal My Sunshine" burned into my memory because I heard it on the radio 1,000,000,000,000 times only to find that there wasn't another song on this album to speak of in a positive manner with the exception of Junebug. In fact, "Steal My Sunshine" was a VERY misleading lead single to put out. If you find the term "white boy rap" offensive, there you're probably a white boy and you wouldn't relate anyway. To all my heads that know what I mean when I say "white boy rap", PLEASE stay clear of this CD. The previous reviewers are telling the truth about this CD. This album is a joke. This CD is nothing more than an overpriced coaster. That's what I use my copy for. I don't normally give out 1 star ratings to any CD, but this CD really is THAT bad. This is my first time EVER writing a 1 star review. I really wish I knew what the thought process was when these guys got signed to a major label. Out of 12 joints, only 2 are even worth mentioning: Steal My Sunshine and Junebug....that's it. Overall, I'd have to say that I wouldn't even wipe my a$$ with this CD if I could.

P.S. - And for the record, "Feelin' Alright" sucks. Anyone that says otherwise has to be insane.

Standout Tracks: Steal My Sunshine and Junebug

Description of You Can't Stop the Bum Rush

Out of print in the U.S.! 1999 album from the Toronto-based Pop/Hip Hop outfit best known for their hit 'Steal My Sunshine' (included on this album). Sony/BMG.
It took hip-hop a couple of decades to become ingrained in pop music, but the genre's influence shows on Len's You Can't Stop the Bum Rush. The members of Len might not agree--after all, they probably consider themselves a hip-hop act, and they've got a case, what with their lineup (which incorporates a DJ and a couple of MCs), their use of loops and samples (from the Andrea True Connection, the Bar Kays, Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel, and the big mack daddy himself, John Travolta), and guests like Biz Markie, Kurtis Blow, and Mr. Dibbs. But there's something very pop at the core of Len, and it's what makes Bum Rush so special--as hip-hop becomes harder and more experimental, Len rediscover a very vital part of the history. Filled with keyboards, dance rhythms, harmonies, stoner humor, and Sugar Ray-ish party vocals, Bum Rush is pure pop for the hip-hop generation. The album keeps things light but never skimps in delivering single after single; they may all prove disposable, but why worry about that now? --Randy Silver
