Music Review: Leeny and Tamara rock kids' music!

This is a kids' album, right?

The answer is a resounding "Yes!"--just witness how my nine-year-old and her friends play it over and over in the car as we buzz around town--but I have to keep reminding myself that the compelling beats and ecstatic melodies on Leeny and Tamara's "Sharing the Same Stars" that have me grooving and grinning were originally meant for the Chipmunks/Pixar/Hanna Montana generation. it's the only childrens' record I've kept playing in the car after dropping my daughter off at school--all others are history the minute she's safely inside.

Give me a loud rendition of the rocker "Ladybug" or the musical travelogue "Across the USA" from this album over depressing angst-ridden alt or "too cool for you" college rock anytime. Good singing and good lyrics are my thing, and both are here in abundance. My favorite track is the wonderful "My Baby", a love song from parent to child told with plenty of references to the young of quite a few kid-friendly animals. Confession: I get a bit misty when I hear it, thinking not only of my own kids but of the universal bond between parents and their offspring--and it still has that effect after multiple, multiple listenings.

My rating--as high as they come. Get a few copies for all the kids and parents in your family.
