Take a Look in the Mirror

Advice/Requirement: must buy. As long as you don't hate heavy music, then you have to but this album. It will become an exemplary album some day!

"Take a look in the mirror" - perhaps you are one of the "Children of the KoRn." I certainly am and have been one even before I took a look in the mirror. I've been a huge fan of KoRn for many years now. First, KoRn captured my attention with its self-titled and Life Is Peachy albums, then I followed the leader (Follow The Leader), was able to deal with my Issues, and rocked to Untouchables. Now, taking a look in the mirror, I see the growing up KoRn (and its children). This new album, I claim, is the heaviest so far. The music is extremely heavy, satisfying the desires of every true fan of heavy genres of music. My opinions by track:
1. Right Now. 9/10 - a very good song complemented by heavy music. The song is about pain, hatred, and being trapped "inside." No surprise - if you are a true KoRn fan and paid attention to the lyrics, then you know that those things are the common theme of the lyrics. Pain and hatred are easy to stop, but pay special attention to the usage of the word "inside" - it may not be obvious, but it arises in a huge percentage of KoRn's songs. I personally associate it with a feeling of something inside, something wanting to get out, something demanding a release, something that I am fighting with over who is in control of my body. "... I feel this scratch INSIDE and perhaps I should beat you." "I feel the ****ed up things INSIDE me, INSIDE you..."
2. Break Some Off. 9/10 - an excellent combination of calmer, but heavy metal with fast-paced music. This song is a great example of KoRn's main theme in this album - relationships. If lyrics are interpreted in a certain, rather obvious way, it is seen that Jonathan Davis is singing about things related to love and relationships. "...Realize nothing is left INSIDE."
3. Counting On Me. 10/10. One of the heaviest songs of the album, although rather slow-paced. This song's heavy beat and the words expressing sadness, hatred, anger, and hopelessness generate strong emotions. My interpretation of the lyrics is that the song is about a relationship in which the author of the words is tired of living with his spouse. The spouse uses him, hates him and everything around her, throws her problems on him, and blames everything on him. He is tired of this kind of life and wants to leave. He knows he should leave, but he chooses to stay. "... INSIDE the rage starts to build."
4. Here It Comes Again. 10/10. An awesome song that contains more of the "sweet" Jonathan voice, but also some of his hardcore vocals as well. Very melodic and still heavy. I enjoy Here It Comes Again a lot.
5. Deep Inside. 8/10. A good calmer song. The music is a bit less of my liking (only beaten by some of KoRn's better songs, since this is the great and powerful KoRn, after all), but still great. "Inside my body is troubled, full of hate. I had to let it out before it's too late." "Deep INSIDE, It can hide! ... Screaming and crawling from deep INSIDE."
6. Did My Time. 7/10. One of the reasons I am giving this one a lower grade is that it's gotten pretty old since the times of Tomb Raider and the Did My Time single. I've already listened to this song a lot. Jon's voice is on a weaker side, I believe, so I usually skip this track. It's still good, but not as good as the other pieces on this perfect album. "INSIDE where do I begin? My mind is laughing at me."
7. Everything I've Known. 9/10. A splendid song with very heavy work by Jon Davis's screaming vocals, as well as not lighter music from his bandmates. "Will bury all this pain And will awake something INSIDE. We pushed the button far INSIDE. We feel our hearts and then we fight."
8. Play Me (featuring Nas). 8/10. A lack of singing by Jon Davis brings the grade down, since his talented singing always spices up the instrumental work of his bandmates. However, when Davis kicks in, it's a sweet voice that is unlike that in any other song he has sung. It is similar to some of those "sweet" moments in "One More Time" or "Alone I Break," but still different. Then after all the sweetness, Davis kicks into passionate screaming. I am amazed at how his throat can handle all this pressure!
9. Alive. 10/10. This is an awesome song! What's ironic is that after I ran out of KoRn songs to listen to after the Untouchables (I own KoRn, Life Is Peachy, Issues, Follow The Leader, Did My Time, and now Take A Look In The Mirror), so I found some unreleased and rare songs. I really liked one of them, which was a demo. It's title was - ALIVE! I enjoyed that song, but the remake, which KoRn produced for its new album is unbelievable. It is many times heavier and so is Jon's voice. It definitely shows how KoRn has grown from that great but not so heavy demo to this hardcore bomb in Take A Look In The Mirror. "It's thrown in my face everyday, 'Cause that's the price I have to pay For what's INSIDE my mind." "I am alive, I will never run away, Places INSIDE My heart screams inside with pride..."
10. Let's Do This Now. 9/10. I feel redundant now, but this again is a very heavy song, just like all of this amazing album. If I were to describe this song in one word, I'd say it's about a "fight." I won't go into details, just buy this album and you'll get them yourself.
11. I'm Done. 10/10. One of the best songs ever, in my opinion and to my preference. Very heavy, great lyrics, perfect singing, variety. "We are the pain, We are the shame, We've gone insane. INSIDE, where no ones around." Jon sings I all kinds of voices - from his sweet quieter voice to screaming, as if blood is ready to pour out of his throat.
12. Y'all Want A Single. 10/10. Are you rrrrrready? Jon's new voice. I never heard anything like this. The song starts out with his new voice, making it hard to even recognize Jon. The singing is pretty weird, but cool. The music is excellent, plus Jon still uses some of his well-known screaming. The song is quite different from the rest, which makes if very entertaining.
13. When Will This End. 8/10. Not a bad song, just a bit too slow for my preferences. Still worth listening to, of course. All songs on this album are. "Standing INSIDE, rotting away. Something INSIDE of me is being taken away. Feeling my heart breaking in vain..."
14. One. 10/10. Gotta love Metallica. KoRn's tribute to Metallica is acceptable. KoRn and Metallica are certainly different, but it is nice to hear Jon's screaming to something totally different that I've been used to (the original).
