Music Review: LOVE the Batalha, wish for more.

The CD has 3 batalha ( I don't know the plural for this word). The genera is to simulate martial/battlefield sounds, but musically. The other reviewer offers detail as to the horizontal trumpets on Iberian organs better than I can, so be sure to read the other review if you started with mine. The other pieces are more typical organ music. I am glad for the three, but wish there were more. In fact, I wish someone would bring out an Iberian organ CD that was ALL Batalha.

I suspect the horizontal trumpets (trompettes en chamade) so typical of the batalha genre are not to everyone's taste since there is a certain very invigorating shrillness that might grate on some people just as it stimulates and delights others. I love blasting these little masterpieces while I drive. It would probably be great for exercising. I am glad I bought this CD. I think any reasonably adventurous organ music lover would enjoy it.
