Music Review: More Swedish Gloom

"The King is Dead" starts it all off. We've heard it all before but who gives a toss? Typical indie chord changes, an angsty vocal that sounds like someone doing a Thom Yorke impression. A far cry from originalty, but pioneers often walk the line between inventiveness and pomposity. Kent will never worry about that because everything here sounds like something you've heard before.

"Music Non Stop", the album's first single is a solid little number. Joakim sings about the music inside his head being "the soundtrack for the end", we don't care if it sounds like someone threw Radiohead, Muse and The Pumpkins in a blender and poured the contents into a tape recorder. The song works fine and is definitely one of the album's highlights. (If you get the chance hear it in Swedish. It is vastly superior even though I don't speak the language.)

Elsewhere, "Heavenly Junkies" is an almost disco flavoured rock out. "Just Like Money" and "Stay With Me" are both lovely and ernest closer "Whistle Song" also does the job.

Kent will never be on my list for the most inventive group on the planet. You could argue that they have genuine angst, but frankly I've heard plenty of other groups do it better. They may not be original but if you like that indie sound Kent will always be at your service. Now for my Corn Flakes.
