Music Review: Enjoy all Your Magical Moments in 'Pooh Corner'

Don't let the title fool you. This album not only appeals to little kids, but the big kids (adults), too. I'm happy as pink lemonade and cookies that pop musician Kenny Loggins has put together his successful 1994 'Return to Pooh Corner.' The title song, 'Return to Pooh Corner' has gone through a few changes since the late 60s back in the days of Loggins & Messina. Since then Loggins created his revised piece by adding more lyrics to the then titled, 'House on Pooh Corner' to a more recent 90s version. Loggins wrote it in his early years in high school as a farewell song to his childhood. His smooth vocals and lovely harmonies has always soothed our soul with gentle song and soft acoustics. Ah, it bring back such wonderful memories for me as well :).
Lots of songwriting talent grace the entire album plus background vocals on "All the Pretty Little Ponies" by the legendary David Crosby and Graham Nash. The "Neverland Medley" suite features Peter Pan, and Gene Wilder uses his Willy Wonka voice on Pure Imagination. Other songwriting credits: "Rainbow Connection" written by Paul Williams for the Muppet movie; "St. Judy's Comet" (Paul Simon); "Last Unicorn" (Jimmy Webb); "Cody's Song" (written by Loggins himself for his son, Cody) also from his 1991 'Leap of Faith' album; "Horses" (traditional folk lullaby); "Love" (John Lennon); "To-Ra-Loo-Ra" (traditional Irish lullaby). This album has been such a hit that Loggins has also put together another one, 'More Songs from Pooh Corner.' On it he has Olivia Newton-John doing vocals on one of the songs. Both are real treasures. You can still catch Loggin's 'Return to Pooh Corner' song on the Delilah radio show now and then. What can warm the hearts of the young and old, but only Pooh can. Dreams do come true in Pooh's Corner, just use your imagination. So, if you've had a long, busy day and want to relax just turn this on and tune in to Pooh Corner. For those who like just the 'Pooh Corner' song but into more of his best hits, I recommend 'Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow the Greatest Hits of Kenny Loggins.' Thank you, Kenny Loggins for your gift and your genius-for putting a little bit of the kid in all of us.

Here is a collection of some of my favorite children's songs covering my many years of being a dad. I consider these mostly classic compositions, beautiful and simple; some written for movies, some haunting standards and a few written by contemporary singers for their own children. Of all the things my kids and I have done together, the quiet times of night-songs and bedtime snuggles will endure as my most precious memories. I can still see Crosby's face as a little one begging me for "more, Daddy, more, more" of "Winnie The Pooh" (as he called it), or rocking Cody to "To-Ra-Loo-Ra" (if he didn't fall asleep before we made it to his bedroom). And it's not over yet. I'm still singing to Isabella and on into the future to Luke. And I'm loving it. They're my best audience, even if my only applause is the deep slow breathing of a sleeping baby. Delicious. So at long last, the work of a lifetime.
