Music Reviews of Lucky Old Sun Deluxe

Music Review: ~island country at its best~
Rating: 5 Stars

Need a vacation, but can't afford one? Simply pop in this CD - close your eyes - and just dream about being on the beach...relaxing and soaking up the sun!!!! Almost all of the songs on here are just so soothing and healing, and the lyrics really make you think of what this life is all about...what should our real priorities be?

"Lucky Old Sun" is an amazing follow up album to "Be As You Are" - I totally love it! The highlights to me on here are "Way Down Here", "Down The Road", "Nowhere To Go, Nowhere To Be", "Spirit Of A Storm", "Boats", and "The Life"...which are all just really mellow and relaxing - acoustic island music at its best! In my opinion, the only song that really doesn't seem to fit in on the CD is "Ten With A Two". Also, i must say that if you didn't like Kenny's 'Be As You Are' album, you probably won't like this album either - although the lyrics are deeper and quite different - it is still island style country music.

I gotta shout out a huge thank you to Kenny...i really appreciate the effort in making this CD. I know there was a lot of pressure to come out with another greatest hits album ($$$$$$$) but I totally needed this island music fix, because I can't travel right now - and I know that there are many other fans who cannot currently go on an Island getaway either. It is sooo nice to just play this CD over and over and dream about being in the islands...lying on the beach....hearing the ocean waves.....and soaking up that lucky old sun! In our crazy lives it's easy to get caught up in everything and lose sight of the big picture...but life on earth is so fragile and short. Listen closely to the lyrics in "The Life"...they're soooooo true!!!!! Overall ~9/10~

Music Review: If you want more depressing stuff - this is your CD
Rating: 3 Stars

I'm a huge Kenny fan - have been since he got started fast approaching 15 years ago now - back when no one knew him and he was opening for the amazing Clay Walker. I've purchased every album of his and enjoyed them all. I didn't hesitate to purchase this one when I saw it was released this past week.

However, I was disappointed. There are only two real "upbeat" songs on this album, and honestly, I didn't care for either one of them - including his current release "Everybody Wanna Go to Heaven". This is personal preference, I know, but that's what this review is about.

If you want to hear solely about heartbreak, recovering from it, and moving on with your life - buy it now. Some people need this; clearly Mr. Chesney did, and I'm glad he found it.

If you want a CD like his past ones, skip this one and wait for the next.

I really liked his album "Be As You Are". I thoroughly enjoyed most of the songs on it, even though it focused on island life. This one is much more "down". It still speaks of the much-needed peace he's found in the islands, but it also focuses (nearly the entire album) on his mistake and his recovery from it. I wasn't expecting an entire album of this.

Just a heads up, I guess - it's a depressing album. If that's for you - buy it. He does it well. If not, wait for the next - he'll be around a long, long time...

Music Review: This Is Kenny Chesney!!
Rating: 5 Stars

I am a Big Fan of classic Jimmy Buffett. The problem with that is I'm not a big fan of his new stuff & as a result I was left with a big void for that style of music. So when I heard Kenny Chesney's " Be as you are " CD I was real excited! The problem with Kenny Chesney's career & what most people don't understand is Island Country is Kenny Chesney! Built on the backs of his true fans who loved "Be As You Are" corporate Country snatched him up from us & gave you the generic country [...] of " When the Sun Goes Down","No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" & others. There are far to many Toby Keiths out there already playin that College Dorm Keggar Country, WE DON"T NEED ANOTHER!! So what we have here with "Lucky Ol Sun" is Kenny Chesney finally getting to a point in his career (money wise)& popularity where he can afford to be himself. This is a GREAT ALBUM! It paints a picture of a life we all wished we had or atleast visited much more often & truely shows Kennys' soul. He's a simple man of simple pleasures & these are his roots. ISLAND COUNTRY!

Music Review: Another Winner From Chesney!
Rating: 4 Stars

This is one of KC's best albums to date; in fact, the only songs I really don't like are "Everbody Wants To Go To Heaven" and "Ten With a Two." Other than these two songs, this album is great!

Once again, KC does not do traditional country music here; yet, this album does not have the same rock-and-roll sound of his previous hits such as "Young" and "Big Star." The first few songs on here are more soul bearing and refelctive, haunting and telling; think songs like "Road and the Radio" and "There Goes My Life." The second part of the album is KC's trademark "island country" music that has come to define his recent cds; think slower-versions of songs like "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problem" and "When the Sun Goes Down."

Overall, most of the songs on "Lucky Old Sun" have a slower feel than many of KC's past albums - as if KC wanted this album to be about storytelling instead of simply producing "good time" music. My favorite songs are "I'm Alive", "Way Down Here" and "Nowhere To Go, Nowhere To Be." I highly recommend this album!

Music Review: Captures real life
Rating: 5 Stars

after listening to this cd a few times and trying to let it stand on it's own i have come to realize that this is a great collection of songs. the album is better and more real than the similar "songs from an old blue chair" the songs here are much more real and about real life, the old blue chair album was about the people kenny has met in the tropics, then this album is really that life and makes his listener feel why he is so drawn to that life. there aren't really any bad songs on the album, although i think "ten with a two" doesn't really fit with the album but it's not a bad song. highlights have got to be "the life" "nowhere to go, nowhere to be" "down the road" "i'm alive" which Dave Matthews sings the hell out of and makes the song something special. overall this record is great, it's more personal and really lets the listener get to know kenny and connect with him and his music and also puts life in perspective
