Music Review: Excellent debut album!

This album set the precedent for the Mirror's success. I first heard "Friend of Mine" way back when I was in high school, and I wanted to know who the devil was belting all through the radio like that. Found out it was Kelly Price, who I remember singing backgrounds for the likes of SWV, Faith Evans, and Mariah Carey (all over her Christmas album). This prompted me to buy this album.

I couldn't find a single thing wrong with this album at all. There's your uptempo cuts that will get you moving, like the jumping "Your Love", featuring a rap by Lil' Cease. Also a rumpshaker is "Kiss Test", a nice little song that will have your head moving.

We all know that Kelly Price is known for her voice, and she definitely shines on the ballads on the album. "Take Me to A Dream" has to be the best song on this album. The vocals on this song are very impressive, especially when she gets to the modulation toward the end. And not to be missed is the impressive musical arrangement in the background. Classic! Another lovely song on this album is "Soul of A Woman", which has a wonderful guitar riff in the background along with Kelly's vocals.

One of my favorite Kelly Price songs ever is "You Complete Me", a duet with Daron Jones of 112. They complement each other so well on this song, and is a lovely song to sing to your boo on any special occasion. Beautifully written and sung. Kelly really shines on the gospel track "Lord of All"....the modualtion and adlibs on this song show Kelly's versatility, singing some seriously low altos and glass shattering sopranos. Beautiful. And, at the end, the classic soap opera song that started the trend of the operatic R&B, "Friend of Mine" remix featuring Ronald Isley and R. Kelly. This song started all of the spoken word-singing we all love today from R. Kelly and "Mr. Biggs".

Any real R&B fan has this album in their collection. This alsum is truly a gem that should not be forgotten. Kelly has definitely earned her title of a good singer! :o)
