Music Review: Her First is a Great Start

This is the CD release of the talented Kathy Mattea's first self-titled album. Even then, you can see why she is turned into one of the finest female country singers of our time.Her voice is crystal clear, her emotional delivery impressive. The standouts on this collection is her cover of Barry Manilow's "Somewhere Down the Road" which she conveys without the sometimes histrionic vocals of Mr. Manilow. It is a beautiful version. Also "God Is No Stain Glass Windows" is a heartfelt and poignant appraisal of man's place in the universe. Not preachy, just sensitive.
All ten tracks are extremely good, though. If you have a Mattea collection, this one definitely belongs in it!
