Music Review: Pleasant and Puzzling ...

"On The Other Side" is an excellent choice for the budget-minded consumer. Whether you are looking to sample Kansas for the first time or just hoping to reconnect via CD to some of the classic cuts you owned way back in the vinyl days this is a real bargain compilation for under $5 that will do the trick. While some of Kansas's best and better known cuts are certainly included, this is not and should not be considered to be a "Best Of" compilation. The tracks are taken from five of the band's first six studio albums (1974 - 1979) and as any Kansas fan would tell you there are obvious omissions that would instantly discredit this package if it claimed to be "Best Of". What you do have is a really pleasant if not somewhat puzzling selection of ten Kansas tunes that flow together nicely to create an entertaining listening experience. The inclusion of "Can I Tell You" from the debut album and the trio of tracks from "Masque": "It Takes A Woman's Love (To Make A Man)", "Child Of Innocence" and "Two Cents Worth" serve to make this compilation unique and a fine audio offering in its own right.

Note: Documentation is virtually non-existent. However, the early era band photos are a nice touch.
