Music reviews of Turbo

Music Review: Judas Jovi
Rating: 1 Stars

As if Judas Preist hadn't given us enough pop metal with songs like -Living After Midnight-,-Breaking The Law-,-You'v Got Another Thing Coming- and the funky -Take On The World-, they release this pile of crap on us. Many Preist fans say that this was the sell-out album for good ol' Judas, when they made a pop metal experiment, they are only half correct about that, since the band has been flirting with commercial pop metal type songs since 78 (Hell Bent). This album is where it came out fully blown, and put the final nail in Preist's leather studded coffin, which arguable they never recovered from to this very day.

One of the first albums i got that literally made me sick to my stomach was Judas Preist's TURBO. I picked up a cassette of this in a $3.99 tape rack in a Wal-Mart along with their DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH album. On of the first thing i noticed was the frankly stupid cover art for this, but that didn't deter me, i still bought it. I get home, put it in the tape deck, and the first song that rolls out is one of the most rancid songs that has ever violated my ears;-Turbo Lover-, i don't even want to know what Halford is talking about in this song, the music itself was horrendus enough, imagine the worst Europe song ever written, only it is from JP instead. So after that song, i say, "OK, one bad song i can deal with, the rest must be good, rigth?"...WRONG!-Locked In-,Parental Guidence-,-Wild Nights,Hot And Crazy Days-,-Out In The Cold-, OH GOD! WHEN WILL THE TORTURE STOP!? I never thoght it was humanly possible to make something even THIS bad, because even bad albums atleast have a shread of redeeming qaulity to it (like being so bad it is funny to listen too), no, this isn't funny at all, this is vomit inducing. When you realize that these guys are in thier mid fortys and playing songs about partying out and teenage girls, it will give you a stomach virus.

To add insult to injury, i (by accident i might add) saw the music videos for -Turbo Lover- and -Locked In- and proceeded to cry. The once great Judas Preist who gave us classics like SAD WINGS OF DESTINY and STAINED CLASS are now reduced to looking like this so they can still stay aloat as a band, how pathetic. You would swear that Glenn Tipton came out of a Bon Jovi music video, with his bleahed rooster perm and puke colored leather jacket. Seeing Dave Holland dressed up as Micheal Jackson did not help either as well as the fact that they found a secret "hidden" drummer underneath the stage of a preist concert to "enhance" Daves drumming, Rob Halford was the only normal looking one out of the five. Further more, seeing that home made video of the fans in the parking lot during the Fuel For Life tour (Turbo's 86 world tour) futher damaged my interset in this band; seeing those girls proclaimimg they want to get laid by Glenn Tipton, drunken morons screaming "JUDAS PREIST!!!" and other frankly retarded acts of juvinile tomfollery(OK, who the hell claimes Ian Hill as an influence?),the band should of been embaresed by this. The fact that they tried to become what was popular at the time to make money made me lose respect for them, degenerating into a poor mans Def Leppard essentialy. We had enough of that crap back then, no more of it please.

TURBO gets my vote, along with HELL AWAITS by Slayer, as one of the worst things ever put on tape. My suggestion is to stick with 70's JP and forget they even made albums in the 80's, it has been leading up to this since BRITISH STEEL, TURBO was enevitable. This album needs to burn in hell! i hate it! Preist should of called it quits after 80, because they are complete crap now, just listen to Angle Of Retribution! I took my TURBO tape and put it in a bench vice, cruching it to pieces, and then taking the pieces and throwing it into a furnace! nothing this bad has the right to exist. If you see this album, run away, run away as fast as you possibly can!

Description of Turbo

Deluxe double 180gm white vinyl pressing in gatefold sleeve. In 1986, Judas Priest intended to record a double album called Twin Turbos of which half would be lighter, more commercial Rock, and the other half would be similarly polished but heavier and less synth-driven. As it happened, record labels being notoriously timid about double albums, the project was split into two releases, with the more commercial Twin Turbos material being relegated to Turbo. The album marked the band's first use of guitar synthesizers. Back On Black. 2010.
