Music Reviews of Nostradamus (Deluxe Edition)Music Review: Mediocre At Best Rating: 2 Stars
Let me start off by saying that I am a huge Priest fan. So, I had to run out and grab this disc first thing this morning. Ripped it open and put disc 1 in my car's system. Uhhhh...was there a mistake at the Epic plant? If it were not for Halford's distinct voice, I would have sworn that there was a mistake. Where are the blistering riffs? Is Dave Holland back on drums? Sure sounds like it- or perhaps Scott forgot to bring his double foot pedal into the studio. WAY TO MELLOW! I understand the whole "concept album" thing, but you can pull it off without wussing out. With 23 tracks on 2 discs, only 3 or 4 tracks caught my attention. Has age caught up with The Priest?
Music Review: Priest shows depth, intelligence, and killer musicianship!!! Rating: 5 Stars
This album makes me want to re-read my book of quatrains!!! For all you haters out there metal does not have to be "go for the throat" 24/7 in order to have thrust and power. This is some of Priest's most thoughtful material ever. Everyone remembers how bad "Jugulator" and "Demolition" were I'm sure. Those albums were total sophomoric crap!!
"Nostradamus" however, is very well thought out, and sequenced. The Metal God, KK, Glenn, Ian, and Scott have put their collective all into this and they are the only metal band that could've pulled this off!!
LISTEN!!
Music Review: What have they done... Rating: 3 Stars
I have been a long time fan of the metal gods,
but nowadays i have been wondering what they were thinking
when making that album and the previous one.
In that one, after browsing through the tracks, my only feeling
was that it wasn't music anymore but merely church chants with
piano/organ in the background. I had to wait for the 9th out of 10 song on the 2nd
cd to actually have something that remotely sounds like the Judas Priest
i used to love and defend through hell.
Now, i am not so sure anymore...
Music Review: 'Nostradamus' is a Judas Priest tour de force... a masterpiece! Rating: 5 Stars
Having been a Judas Priest fan for a long time, I can say that this album is not the usual Priest. However, I can also say that it's the best I've ever heard! It is truly a masterpiece on so many levels. Unlike the usual Priest, best listened to on a fast drive or a hard run, 'Nostradamus' is best appreciated at high volume in a dark, candlelit room. Intelligent, dark, and thoughtful, this work combines great instrumental performances, Halford's amazing vocal ability, and a well-researched interpretation of the life of a compelling historical figure. Well done!
Music Review: Judas Priest meets Manowar! Rating: 5 Stars
This is a great record! I love it. It's got some great guitar, keyboards and excellent singing! How could one NOT like it! A lot of the tunes are "build up" tunes where the guitars kick in and then the singing. I love the lyrics which are kind of a mix between Iced Earth and Manowar! Halford still has the pipes as does many a metal singer from his age group such as Dio. So, will they play this entire record on TOUR? Who knows. All I know is that KK is great and Glen is doing some Yngwie type stuff on several solos!
