Music Review: Rifkin's classic take on Joplin deserves a better CD reissue

I'd give this five stars, except that Joshua Rifkin's 1970s Scott Joplin albums deserve a more caring and deluxe reissue. From the three volumes originally released, this CD is missing SEVEN tracks! And, having recently gone back and listened to the vinyl, I'm sure these can sound better than this CD. The albums were almost single-handedly responsible for the Joplin revival of the '70s and were huge sellers - surely Nonesuch can put out a 2-CD remastered set with all the original tracks and program notes, can't they? I'm sure people would snap it up. Anyway, great music, but I'm hoping they eventually treat it right. Meanwhile, I urge anyone who likes this to grab Rifkin's later "Rags and Tangos" CD - beautiful recordings of rags by Lamb and Scott and rag-like tangos by Ernesto Nazareth, cut from the same cloth as these classic Joplin recordings!
