Music Reviews of Jordin Sparks

Music Review: disappointing first CD
Rating: 2 Stars

I'm not going to take away anything from Jordin Sparks' singing. The girl CAN sing. However, I don't think this CD is very good. In my opinion we've heard the only two singles that could possibly be hits on the radio already released, 'My Tattoo', 'No Air'. After that the remaining songs have NO AIR and fall flat. It's not her though. I believe the songs themselves were not good. I would like to recommend this CD but I can't and unfortunately, I see my purchase as a waste of money. I hope she survives to put out another CD and that there are better song writers involved next time, that was clearly the problem for me. Something has to change otherwise she'll end up like the winner of American Idol the season before her. Remember him? Probably not, unless you're apart of the 'soul patrol'.

Music Review: This is singing!!!
Rating: 5 Stars

It took a while for me to open this c.d. Finally, after popping it into my car and listening to the whole c.d. I was amazed!!! You can truly hear the talent of Jordin. The songs vary from straight pop to r&b and a little country. I thought it was a wide range c.d. that hits all listeners. I love it and haven't been able to stop listening to it. I feel that some of the songs have an 80's/90's feel to it which was refreshing to this 28 year old. Just put it this way, if this c.d. was to get scratched I would buy another one. Way to go Jordin!!! Hopefully, on her next c.d. she will sing some old school songs like on American Idol! I would love her to remake some classics since she is a true talent!!! Buy the c.d. people...this c.d. is refreshing and so better that Alicia Keyes' c.d.

Music Review: Great Family-friendly Pop Album
Rating: 4 Stars

Don't listen to the nay-sayers... this is a splendid family-friendly pop album. Although I do agree that her talent far exceeds the material, there is some great pop here. "One Step at a Time" and "Worth the Wait" are songs I can't stop listening to and her handlers would be crazy not to release one of them as her next single.

Having said that, I would love to hear her break out and take some chances; partner up with some of the great ballad (Mariah Carey, Dianne Warren) and R&B/hip-hop (Scott Storch, Timbaland) producers to really showcase her talents.

This album is good, but Jordin is capable of great. Maybe if this record sells, she'll be able to have a little more creative control over her material and really show us what she's capable of.

Music Review: If you're a fan already, you'll enjoy it. If not...

Jordin Sparks
Jordin Sparks, last season's American Idol winner, debuts her self-titled album this week. Her strong vocal ability makes this collection of songs very good by any pop standard. The first three tracks, "Tattoo", "One Step At A Time", and "No Air" come sweeping in and leave you mesmerized. However, even though she is only 17 (the youngest American Idol winner), the themes and writing feel a bit stale. And her attempts to pick things up a little for the dance crowd -- "Shy Boy" -- fall rather flat. Nevertheless, there are several pristine musical moments on the album, and anyone who enjoyed her on the show will find plenty to enjoy on "Jordin Sparks".

Music Review: Jordin releases a solid debut
Rating: 4 Stars

Jordin Sparks is a young and blossoming artist. Her first single "Tattoo" was very successful, so I decided to check out her CD. This is a terrific album from someone very new to the recording industry. She travels from melodic and soothing with "No Air" and "Next to You" to young and refreshing in "One Step At A Time" and "Young and In Love". Several songs could be instant hits on Adult Contemporary stations such as "Now You Tell Me" or "Permanent Monday"(a song in which Jordin sings with such maturity you wouldn't know she was so young). Despite a few lapses in material on the latter end of the record, this album is generally a solid debut for Jordin Sparks. I will be interested in seeing her grow as an artist; she gets a little more credit because of her age.
